Hey all, I just thought of something yesterday while I was helping my friend out with his 5 lug conversion. I got to looking at his motor (he has an SR) and I noticed that there was no cruise control attached. I asked him about it and he said that the shop that did his swap couldn't figure out how to make it work. That isn't too suprising to me since they also forgot to bolt his motor to the mounts when they put it in...

Anyway, I was just wondering if I can retain cruise control when I do my SR swap. My friend said that of all the people he knows in austin with SR's in their car, none of them have cruise.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Good question!

The answer is.. "I don't know", but it's something that I've looked at and will be attempting on my SR when the weather warms up a little.

I hope that it's just a matter of putting the original cruise from yoru KA onto the SR. You will need the throttle cable "thingy" (eccentric?) that cruise cable rides on and hooks to. This might require a longer throttle body shaft (ie. the one off your KA).

As far as I can tell the cruise is not controlled by the ECU, althought I could be wrong on that. If it is we're probably screwed. I think it's just controlled by the speed sensor, and vaccume.

I'd be interested to see what anyone else has to say.

-Martin.

I thought CC was only for automatics. That might be one reason nobody has it.

WTF?! Crapsky! I ought to just give up on this whole damned thing if I can't have cruise control.

And get me a real car, like a 1983 Cavalier.....

Looks like someone hasn't been on long long road trips with a 5 speed too often. Most 'modern' day 5 speeds have cruise as an option. My 97 SE and 89 were both 5 speeds which did indeed have cruise. Cruise is controlled under the hood through vacuum and air valves on the 240sx. On a 5 speed, it is also assisted by a brake switch, clutch switch, and a unit mounted in the kick panel along with the ECU.

I was gonna say, my '90 KA 5spd has cruise, I was just wondering if there was a way to retain it.

Well Heavy Throttle wired my harness to retain the cc. The problem is the throttle. I need to rig something up. I'll worry about that later though.
