Ok, this has been very annoying for me ever since I bought my car. Here is the problem, when I have my cruise control on and I turn on my turn signal to change lanes the cruise shuts off. It is just like if I hit my clutch or brake and it just turns off. I think a mechanic said it was a bad timing ring(I can't remember what it was called)? It is in the steering column and was pretty expensive to fix and didn't want to do so if it wasn't going to fix the problem. Any ideas anyone?

hmmm this is an interesting problem as the signal wiring is completerly seperate from the cruise harness. the cruise switch is in one of the spokes of the steering wheel on your car and its harness runs through the clock spring(spiral cable) and then down through the coloumin its own harness. where as you signal switch is bolted to the side of the coloum beyond the spiral cable and has its own harness running down through the coloum how they effect each other seems odd to me since their seperate. Does it cancel the cruise if yoiu change lanes with out useing the turn signal?

That its, the clock spring! That is what the mechanic said was wrong with it. I don't know what I was thinking timing ring??? How hard is it to change the clock spring? It is expensive? The cruise is only affected when I turn on the turn signal. i have just been switching lanes without signaling, which I don't like to do!

Nistech did you ever find anything else out? Thanks again for all your help! Do you think replacing the relay would help at all?

i have the service manual open in front of me right now I have gone through both wiring diagrams and the only place the 2 circuits share anything is in the gauge cluster. both the cruise light and the signal bulbs share the same ground. the bulbs splice to the same ground trace on the circuit board. then go out a connector to a body ground.

Other then that connection there the systems are not interlinked what so ever anywhere else in the car. Even where the harnesses run through the bulk connectors their pins are not close together at all. The turn signal switch does not run through the spiral cable.
