First, a great thank you to this forum which pointed me in the right direction (from another post) as well as with the great documentation access. Wouldn't have done it without that!
2012 Pathfinder 4WD (VQ40DE) but I am sure this applies to many other vehicles and year range.
SYMPTOMS: The obvious one was the cruise control SET light flashing and cruise control no longer operating. A few month before, I also had an intermittent then steady SLIP indicator light but did not think much of it as there was no other ill effect and I assumed it was a bad wheel sensor as the most likely cause.
Both issues ended up being caused by the STOP light switch (the one with 4 contacts) underneath the brake pedal assembly.
VERY IMPORTANT: That STOP light switch problem also meant I no longer had any STOP lights when braking. I only found about this after being back home and digging the technical information on this forum. Obviously, driving without any STOP light is very bad! Be aware: with this cruise SET light symptom, you may no longer have stop light so be extra cautious in heavy traffic and watch your behind!
22$ and a stop light switch (Nissan 25320-AX10A) later, all symptoms (including the slip indicator) are fixed and my brake lights function (relief sigh). Changing the switch is easy once you understand you need to turn it a quarter turn or so to have it slide in its holder. Just mark the depth of the original switch and you're good (so that the contact is fully pushed when the pedal is not pressed).
