2006 5AT no mods, never touched the ecu.

My cruise control has been of the fritz for some time now. It started that sometimes it would work and other times it would light up on the dash and flash rapidly and not allow me to set. Sometimes I could shut the car off and start it up and it would work just fine. Recently it has started not lighting up at all when I try to turn it on.

I ran the in car code reader and got 2 codes.

P1564 ASCD Steering Switch
P1574 ASCD Vehicle Speed Sensor

I cant believe it is both issues seeing that they are both part of the cruise control system.

The switch is pretty cheap so I might try that first. (This seems unlikely because the switch seems to function 1/2 the time)

The Vehicle speed sensor has me lost. Im under the impression that there are 2 sensors, one somewere in the transmission and another elsewhere. Anyone know what sensor is related to cruise control? Ive searched around and cannot find the part.

thanks

Also it's the set light that's flashing. Just drove it around the block and its back to the flashing symptom again.

It sounds to me that the set light blinking is because it can't properly determine the speed due to the faulty sensors. I would check relays and fuses first as those are my first steps in troubleshooting electrical issues.

Also - does your speedometer seem accurate?
