Many of you know my daily travels include i-26 going up a 3400ft elevation to the NC/TN border daily..
When my cruise is SET (any speed) and I need to pass or want to accelerate and I fully depress the gas pedal the car shoots off like a rocket then 2 -3 seconds into this impressive passing, the car just slows and goes into a higher gear.. say from third back to 5th on HWY. This ONLY happens with cruise SET. I have to immediately look down to hit CANCEL OR turn it off altogether hitting the CRUISE button next to CANCEL. This is
1- extremely irritating when smoking a Z
2- irritating
3- dangerous if I’m avoiding a run-away Semi
4- irritating
5- definitely a engineering program error

I’ve had almost every brand available in the USA and I can say with 100% that no car I’ve ever owned did this..

Is this happening to anyone else? 2005 Q

That does sound odd... Sounds like a glitch in the whole drive by wire logic. I don't think I ever noticed anything like that with our '05 G.

Does this behavior occur anywhere in the neighborhood of 90 mph?

It happens at 50mph+ I don’t think I’ve ever had cruise on below 50 and had a need to full throttle. Under 50 a full throttle will lay you back and is typically a hit the brakes situation because it’s a gross amount of excess power.

I will go out this evening and I will set it at 30/35/40/45/50 and see if this only occurs at certain speed. If so, I think NHTSA should be made aware-
At 55 and 60 65 and 70 the cruise will interrupt a full throttle .. up shifts as it takes over car begins to settle in about a 3 second period then realizes I am pressing the peddle full throttle and it takes off again.. I do not know if this repeats.

I know your warranty is long long in your rear view mirror, but would be worthwhile if you can show this happening reliabilty to call Infiniti and get a local dealership involved. Car companies have had to make things right for saftey issues many times in the past. I got new fuel injectors for my 1984 300ZX in 1997 after too many of them were catching on fire.

Can either of you guys try to duplicate this phenomenon?
Set cruise to 60-65 and after set, wait maybe 40 seconds and then press the accelerator to the floor. The car should drop into 3rd for a moment, then it’s as if fuel is cut of for a few moments and the process repeats itself..
