I am electronics design consultant and I am toying with the idea of developing a retrofit DBW cruise control this summer for my 06 350Z, just for fun.
It doesn't look like a factory retrofit would be cost effective or easy, although I have little doubt that it could be done.
I am the engineer that developed the worlds first remote car starter (Command Start), I also have a few CAN devices under my belt, so I have quite a bit of auto electronics "know how". I don't have a lot of "know why" yet. Thus the reason for this post.
My intention would be to fully emulate the factory unit.
It would be a micro computer based unit that would interface directly with the existing foot pedal electronics. i.e. no mechanical stuff. To look like a factory install, you would need to aquire a steering column switch panel etc. from Nissan.
I am curious just how many people would be interrested in buying such a device. It would be nice to get at least 10 people or so that would be willing to part with 500CDN bucks for it, not including the steering wheel, clutch, brake and transmission switches (from Nissan) which would add more to the cost.
Naturally you would have to install it yourself too.
If you are seriously interrested, email me at
