I have a 06 Infiniti M35X. I have had it since February 2012. Every once in a while the cruise control will start blinking on the dashboard and stop the cruise control set speed. It can also start blinking while being on but not set to a control speed. Has anyone experienced this before? I will take it to the dealership as I have a bumper to bumper warrenty but would like to know with what I'm dealing with before I take it in to be looked at.

The only times that my cruise control will do something like that is when the wipers are on or if I turn off the VDC.
Sometimes, if the sensor is dirty in the bumper, it will have problems as well.
If those aren't the cases for you, then the system need to be checked.

You are correct on it occuring when the wipers are on as if it rains hard enough the cc will disengage. This is occuring during clear skies as it happened about 4x this morning back to back before it held the cc. Where in the bumper is the sensor located? I just cleaned my car about 5 days ago and I don't drive through any mud or off road.

I forgot to ask, does your car have adaptive cruise control?
If so, if you stand in front of the car facing the front bumper, you'll see it just to the right of the center cutout at the bottom... rectangular clear plastic piece in the black plastic.

I notice a similar experience when heading directly into the sun-the adaptive cruise control blinks and stops working.

It sounds like the light sensor on the upper dash is detecting 'glare', meaning, if it is early in the morning and the sun is hitting you and you try to use ICC, it will not operate until the light sensor detects there isn't any more glare.

How? I've tried doing this before, but I haven't been able to take it off, so I usually just leave it set to the closest following distance...

Page 19 of the Infiniti M Quick Reference Guide states (I'm paraphrasing for topics we discussed):

The ICC System (if so equipped) can be set to one of two cruise modes:

- Vehicle-to-vehicle distance-control cruise
- Conventional fixed-speed cruise control

Setting conventional fixed-speed cruise control
1. Press the CRUISE ON/OFF button and hold for more than 1.5 seconds. The CRUISE indicator light will illuminate.
2. Accelerate to the desired speed.
3. Push DOWN on the COAST/SET switch and release it. The CRUISE SET indicator light will illuminate.

Note: There are certain conditions under which vehicle-vehicle distance-control and/or fixed-speed cruise control cannot be set or will automatically cancel. Three such conditions are shown below.

- When rain, snow, or dirt cover the system sensor (located in front bumper opening).

- When the windshield wiper is operated at low or high speed.

- When strong light shines directly on the front of the vehicle (i.e. sunrise or sunset).

Switching between the two cruise control modes:
When one of the two cruise control modes is in use, you must first turn the system OFF, and then ON again (as instructed above) to select the other cruise control mode.
