I just purchased a 2008 Nissan Versa HB S base model with 6 speed for my wife for Xmas. Don't tell her..... it is a surprise..:-)

Anyway, this model does not have Cruise Control but I am hoping to add it. I know that on the 2008 model Versa that cruise control is now a stand alone option not requiring the Power package, etc. So my question is what is required to add cruise to this car? Is there wiring present for cruise with only the steering wheel buttons needed to be added? Any knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Nico, And for the wiring already existing i don't have a clue. Your best et would be to see how much the dealer would install it for. Is cruse a big deal? I don't have it so I don't know.

There are aftermarket cruise control modules available for the 07 that I'm 99.9% certain will work on an 08. Here's a couple of eBay links for an automatic and a manual:

I've never used an aftermarket cruise, but I would imagine they're not too difficult to install since the Versa is a drive by wire system. You just have to use the ugly buttons that the kit comes with instead of the nice nissan switches.

Yes, I have seen the aftermarket units and I may have to go that route if needed, but I would like to know what is needed to add the factory unit.

I have an 07 s model and I added an after market cruise made by Rostra. I installed it myself in about two hours requiring connections to be made in the can bus system at the throttle control, shifter, ignition, constant power, switched power, and ground. Very clear instructions and a very helpful tech support that more than answered my question. I bought it at http://www.thecruisecontrolstore.com/

Thanks for the info regarding the aftermarket cruise control. It is good to know that the install is not all that difficult on the Versa. Did you use the RF switch for your Rostra Cruise control or did you use the column mounted stalk??

Again though, my hope is to install the factory cruise. I can order the steering wheel switch for under $50, but I need to know what else is required to make it work. My dream is that I would pop off the steering wheel cover where the factory cruise control switch goes and find the wiring already in place. That would be awesome, but I am sure that there is more to it than that. Bob at Versaspeed is looking into it for me and I will be at the Nissan service center Monday so I will inquire there as well.

Keep the info coming!!!

Just curious why you didn't just get it on the new car since it's way cheaper than aftermarket. The dealers in my area seemed to have plenty of 6MT S models with cruise in inventory. I had an 07 without cruise & that was the one option I added to my new Versa.

Mine was a in AD for only two at this price and one was already sold. I got this Versa for $11,799 which seemed like a good deal to me so I could not pass it up.

Again, since Nissan has added Cruise control as a stand alone option for $200 on the 08 models, simple reasoning says that it must not take much to add factory cruise to these cars and much of what is needed is probably already in place. Manufactures do not like to have different wiring harnesses and such for the same model of car. For instance, the wiring for power windows and door locks is probably in place on my Versa and would just need the SL panels and motors to switch over.

Great deal on the V, I can't blame you for not passing that up...

I contacted the dealer shortly after I purchased my 4 speed auto V (S model) to see about having cruise installed... they said it would be around 700 bucks, I think I had a topic on that.

Not sure if it was even an official nissan part, but that's what they'd install for me. Turned off due to the price of the system
