Just bought my wife a used 2000 QX4. She loves it, but the cruise control doesn't work.

Following the shop manual I tested the vacuum actuator (connects pump to throttle), that worked fine.

When I test the pump though I get a high resistance on two of the the pins (supposed to be 3ohms, comes out as 130ohms). Haven't tried running the pump manually, no reliable way to connect power to it.

Ordinarily I'd just replace it and be done with it, but best price I've found is $400(!)

Afraid to buy one salvage, even if I could find one, if this is an age or heat related failure.

Anybody know a cheaper source for these pumps? Can they be rebuilt?

Thanks,

Scott Nixon

It seems that there are no aftermarket options for an ASCD pump. Check this page - depending on your manufacturing date the price might be $340. But that's still a hell of a lot.

I looked at the FSM as well, it says that if the resistance isn't correct then you need to replace the pump. :(

I don't think it's an age or heat related failure - my ASCD pump is over 11 years old and functions just fine. I also have the VQ35DE engine vs. your VG33E, so underhood temperatures are likely hotter. I also live in Florida, so they're probably even hotter still.

I'm not sure if they can be rebuilt.

Thanks for the link, sadly mines the $418 one.

Florida hotter than Phoenix? More humid perhaps, but I doubt its hotter. :)

Well, I had no idea where you were since you didn't fill in the location in your profile. :) I think your only option is local junkyards to find a new ASCD actuator.
