I was wondering if replacing the original rotors to cross drilled would really help my braking that much. My old Bimmer I had Brembos installed and they worked great. I can not seem to find Brembos for my FX and just wanted to see if the crossdrilled would work better even if they are the same size as stock rotors.

Thanks

For street cars, cross drilling and slotting is really just for looks...Just get brembo blanks...

Any time you take a stock rotor and drll it, you remove mass from the rotor. That reduces its ability to convert energy into heat. Not a good idea. WongFeiHung is correct, they are just eye candy

Thanks,

I think I will wait for the Brembo Kit to come out before I do anything to the brakes.

Except in one VERY narrow case of vented and lightly drilled [like powerstops] where in rain the steam may escape thru the holes into the vents.......but very very rare situation and low significance.........might be worth 2-3-even 5% reduction in distances.

Weight the rotors if the drilled weigh the same as non drilled you know the metal is denser. Even 5% weight difference [8 ounces] is significant as it will mean a 20-40F higher rotor temperature in a single 80 mph to zero stop!

Remember the brakes have to be 2-3-4 times more powerful than the engine.......you acccelerate the quarter in 15 second but need to stop in 4 seconds. A 300HP car need 1200 HP brakes.........and brake horsepower is a pure function of all rotor combined weight.

those are wise word of advice.

slotted and drilled are for looks. no enhancement in performance will be noticed. buy some oem spec brembro rotors and some quality pads.
