Hi I posted this in another forum and figured i'd try here as well. Seems like the q45 community is fairly small compared to what i have been used to ( maxima.org)

Anyway I am I am close to purchasing a 2002 Q45 with 75k miles.

Its got sport package, heated seats. no Nav or rear camera. The color is like a navy blue ( mjestic blue ??)

I was wondering what are the things to wathc out for in this car? I read abotu the startup noise issue on some forums, but really have not been able to find anything else. Also how bad is the oil consumption issue ? is it a matter of keeping on top of the oil level regulary ?

Thanks sorry for the newbiness

Hooray! You found the better forum.

Oil consumption can be as much as 1qt/3000mi, from what I've read. Anything more than that usually involves replacement of the engine under warranty. Apparently it has a lot to do with break-in methods?

See if there's any odd front-end vibrations. Apparently they're difficult to resolve.

Software updates should improve throttle response... something about a delay between pressing the gas pedal and actual throttle response.

Awesome color choice!

Someone else who knows more will chime in.

Make sure you pull the entire service history, which any dealership can do for you... Ensure the car wasn't employed in any questionable capacity (such as limo or rental - unlikely) and make sure the prior owner didn't blow off service after the factory warranty expired.

Lastly, an aftermarket warranty is available through one of our sponsors for a reasonable price and is highly recommended - While it's a great car, seemingly minor problems can be pricey if you're going "out-of-pocket", especially at $100+ per hour.

Looking forward to seeing pics and impressions, there are more F50 owners here than you think (they're just not as active, maybe they spend more time driving!)

Either way, welcome to NICO.

one thing is for sure they spend less time fixing their cars than us G50 folk do!

That blue color is a personal favorite... I really like it... Congrats on the purchase.....

I mirror what others have to say , and make sure you have them do a once over, and DEFINITELY get the extended warranty, preferably thru infiniti... One thru one of our sponsors would probably be compareable, but id have more confidence with the infintii warranty.....

Make sure they do the TSB like Jesda said, and you should be very close to M45 performance...

Glad you could make it over to NICO...

I just got a 2002 Q with only 30 k on it black on black and have noticed the lag between pressing the gas and acceleration. What is the TSB and how do i ask for it to be done. whats its official name, and also why the high rate of oil consumption is that for all Q's, i have not noticed that on mine.

thanks

It shouldnt take more than an hour since its just a reflash.. They plug in their computer, press a few buttons, and thats the end of it.

thats how i understand it anyway.

On my M45, with an essentially identical engine, I am experiencing less than 1 quart used every 3750 miles - varies a bit from change to change. I feel good about that considering the stories we have heard about here.

BTW, AFAIK, Infiniti will not replace the engine unless they see it at 1 quart every 1000 miles (yes, some unlucky owners have experienced that high an oil burn!)

He's asking about an 2002, which has a VK, not the VH we have in the 1st gen Q's.
