Greetings friends..I was considering upgrading my brakes w/ drilled rotors.. seen the cost at around $230 a piece.. is there much benifit to this addition..(worth while to do 2 or all 4 wheels)?Certainly looks good but for $1000+ labor .. dont think Id spend for show only!Car will get driven "hard" once in a while.. but certainly not always.. Can someone recommend a quality brake pad also.. Thanks for all your input!Haggis..PS: How to post some pics of my ride here??

I like the Stillen Brembo that Joe has on special from time to time. Much more resistant to rotor vibration from pad deposits or rotor warping.

The best pads are OEM unless you are autocrossing or mountain driving aggressively.

If your going to replace your rotors because it is time to replace them, than you migth as well upgrade. I have just short of 90k on my 97' and I take pretty good care of it, I have not replaced the rotors (the fronts were replaced at 40k due to issues) but turned them twice in 50k worth of driving..

If it is time for new rotors than worth the money since OEM will be in the same price-range I'll bet. For sure get them from Scotsdale either way.

I have not personally used Jerry Tucker but people in the SD area swear by him. Do a search on Jerry Tucker and you can find him. Of course brakes are basic and the Q's are not much different than other brands, but heard he's good and works on lots of Q's.

I can get you Stoptech drilled/slotted I had put on my car. I have them now for 1year and have no problems and they still look brand new(no wear). $150 a piece from my supplier in town. So if you plan to visit Las Vegas I can have them for you.

Drilled rotors are OK, but good OEM ones will treat you fine.. Last time I checked brembo blanks are still around $70/per for the front..

If you're doing the rears, now might not be a bad time to upgrade to the vented rears, either J30 or 300ZX

FGY33 and F50 rear rotors are vented. Brembo are cheaper at tire rack, but are not cadmium plated like the Stillen Brembo. The Brembos seem to hold true much longer (by at least a factor of 3) than OEM, in my experince.

I had blanks OE does not last with this heat we have in Vegas. The Stoptech are holding so good that I recommend it from now. I had replace 3 OE rotors in a course of 9mos. I drive a ot of stop and go.

I'm using Stillen Brembos in the rear and love em. I am a very aggressive driver who lives in the Tennessee mountains

I use ceramic pads, usually bendix brand.

I got a question though, are the rear brakes the same size as the fronts? I wouldn't mind getting the Stillen rotors on the front too to balance out the look.

I am not familiar with the sizes but to tell you the front is always bigger than the rear. For the F50 Brembo banks are not available from my supplier. I never use Bendix, I use Akebono at least.

47K on my Stillen Brembo fronts and not even a hint of a shudder. As much as I prefer not to deal with Stealin' (and I do deal with Joe as he gets an incredible price), whoever they subcontract the work to drill and chamfer the holes correctly. KVR also uses Brembo, which makes sense as all the Brembo OEM replacement rotors I have seen are made in Canada where both companies are located. The KVR are on my Legend with hard pads (I am sure OEM would be better upon initial cold application) and will last the lifetime left in the car. About 65K on those.

Will install the vented rear from a a FGY33 when I change out on the other car with stock rotors.

Interestingly enough, my alignment guy who races a 3 series (& record holder in his class) recommends the Brembos and APRacing (same company) over the Stop Techs for track work. Says the Stop Techs are good, but a little spongy compared to the Brembos. His is not talking about OEM replacement rotors here, less anyone be confused. Now the SPL boys use the Stop Tech on their very fast Z32s.

A lot of people like the Australian Wilwoods, sold under some other names also. But I know at times they have had problems with rotors fracturing.

Q45tech prefers Power Stops, and Porterfield are cryogenically treated Power Stops.

Use stock unless you're trying to look cool or if you do alot of high speed heavy footed stops. They will gain you nothing otherwise.

No, the Brembos OEM rotor replacements at least are much better in service duration.

Maybe, but I was referring to slots and cross drills. Unnecessary for normal use applications, or light hard use. Disc brakes cool well enough on their own. Also, are the Brembos better cost vs. life? They are much more expensive, do they last THAT much longer?

So far the drilled haven't worn the pads any faster that I can discernibly tell. The bremebos are dirt cheap at tire rack. I still prefer the Stillen Brembos for the plating. If you turn your own rotors, stockis fine, but if that is not your idea of fun or do not wnat to pay for competent service, then I think even the Stillen Brembos (from Joe) pay off.
