Ok, I finally got around to taking some videos of my sub. I'll post the first few now, and I'll get a couple more a bit later in the day (gotta take the videos once it gets a bit brighter out). While I do listen to just about everything, rap obviously does the best job at demonstrating the power of a sub. I've found this album (Plies - Definition of Real) to have a bunch of bass that sounds great with a good stereo. My point and shoot is decent, but the mic cannot come close to handling the low frequencies. I would recommend viewing the videos muted as they sound like absolute crap off my camera. I know a point and shoot doesn't demonstrate audio well at all, but I find it funny how powerful the sub is to completely abuse the PaS mic.

Background on my sub: I'm probably running the Critical Mass UL12 at about 2,000 watts RMS. It is being powered by a Sundown Audio SAZ-3000D (both voice coils are 1.5 ohms nominal, so I have them wired in parallel down to 0.75 ohms total load to the amp). The crossover is set to only 63 Hz (anything higher is going to the front speakers) and there is NO subsonic filter (be careful about which subs you try this on as it could damage a number of them). Any questions, let me know!

Warning, lyrics NSFW!!!

These first two are shots of the rear view while driving when it's dark out (Plies - Please Excuse My Hands). Sorry for the poor quality. Hard to shoot and drive at the same time.

Vids later will consist of views of the sub firing, interior of the car vibrating and what the outside of the trunk looks like at full tilt.

Ok, got some more vids. Once again, lyrics are probably not safe for work (and the audio is horrible so probably better muted anyway). Also, while watching these remember that I have extensively sound deadened. Obviously I need a bit more cause this sub is so powerful.

First two I believe were Rich Folk by Plies once again.

Here's a shot of the interior vibrating.

Same song, but here's what the trunk looks like. Obviously, the plate moves around a bit and the trunk has some tin-canish sound to it. Needs more deadener, but the crap sound really isn't that audible (you certainly can't hear it over the music - outside the car - if the windows are down).

Next, I think this song (Young Jeezy - Soul Survivor) hits really deep. In fact, I couldn't even listen to this on my last system because the Alpine Type-X really couldn't keep up with the depth of the bass. This one really makes the trunk move.

Finally, a shot of the sub firing to the same song (don't mind my gym bag/sandals in the trunk, kind of a health nut). I could probably feed it more power (but I might need a new alternator to do so), but it already gets plenty loud for me so that isn't needed. There are definitely some songs that feel like my chair is pummeling me in the back. You can unmute this one. I find it funny that this is far too low a frequency for the mic to even pic up...

Hopefully these videos give a little bit better feel for the sub than the night shots.

Yeah, definitely can feel the bass in your chest cavity. And, even though my hair is short, I can usually feel it moving with the hard hits as well. Did I mention I love this sub/amp combo?

wow, just wow. I have just got back in from doing the finishing touches on my system (final placement of the sub and amp rack and tidying up the mess of wires). and I was feeling pretty proud of myself... now, not so much. now I have to go out spend, what? 10-20 times as much. maybe one day.

IMPRESSIVE!

I still claim that it is a curse. My first car stereo started with an aftermarket deck, cheap coaxial speakers and some bargain basement subs/amp. Each successive install I attempted to improve on certain aspects of the system. My last one (with the Type-X) showed me how much I wanted a top-tier sub. Now that I have this I'm insanely happy, but I really want to improve my front speakers now. I guess no matter what anyone has installed in their cars, they will always want better (probably holds true for everything in life). Unfortunately, money is the limiting factor here.

Oh yeah, and I'm not trying to put down anyone else's system here. To be honest, you'd have to be an idiot to spend money like I do on car stereo equipment...

thanks for posting these Adam... I decided to pull the plug on the critical mass Ul12 upgrade for now.. hopefully, another deal will present itself in the future... my issue is that if I change to this, I will have to eitherA. buy an additional amp just like the one I have and wire each voice coil to each amp seperately (and tune it them of course) that way, I could have ~ 1300 watts going to each 1.5ohm voice coil.... or, qanother option would be to sell my current amp, and get either the Sundown audio amp that you have, ($1200)or the Rockford T20001bd amp ($800)

The cost of the sub (610) plus new amp (800) plus custom box$200 is more than I can spend at the moment...

why can't money grow on trees?

Um, pick it up and chain it on? Actually, with the beating this car is taking from my sub, I'm really surprised at how sturdy the whole thing is. I haven't noticed any new rattles or things vibrating lose yet. I'll wait for winter to roll through though. When it gets cold out, the panels are going to shrink a bit and we'll see how they hold up to the sub then.

No problem man. I know you weren't the only one who wanted to see this in action, but it does seem like you were the most interested (seeing as how you were contemplating getting one yourself).

As far as the amps go, I think what you have now should push it decently for a while. Upgrade in the future, maybe. But at least once you get the sub you'll be able to enjoy it (when I first got it, it sat in my room for about 2 months before the rest of my install was complete - I honestly took it out of the box every now and again to just look at it cause I was so itching to hear it perform). Then, you do have options on the amps. I paid less than 1200 for mine shipped. In fact, the price keeps dropping on the freaking thing making me angry. Check here. That's where I bought mine and they were awesome to work with. Also, that site is an authorized retailer, so I'm still covered by the factory warranty.

I totally hear you about money growing on trees. I've still got a lot of work to do to my car. I'm in DESPERATE need of some springs (saving up as fast as I can to get on this group buy) and I want to hit the RSB while I'm at it (and install my endlinks since I already have those). Then, I still need wheels and the rubber to match. I think I need money more than you do. So, if you find one of those sweet money trees, send some of that my way!

Dude, that's insane!

Your trunk wants to fly off it's hinges. I can't believe it. I personally have never seen anything like that.

Awesome system.
