So I was driving to work, and the RB was misfiring, kinda like when you blow a line or have a vac leak, and i limp it the rest of the way there. When I get there, I pop the hood to investigate, and hear a hiss. A closer look reveals water bubbling from the #2 and #3 coils. OH F@#K. Headgasket. All this money down the drain, all this time spent last winter and this spring and summer. I was looking at seats. Yeah, SEATS!!! And SPEAKERS! Here we go again. Maybe I can drive it this spring again. Oh wait. I'm deploying again. Maybe a part out is in order.

I let myself calm down, then at lunchtime, I figure I'll limp it back home and switch out with the truck. So i start it up again. No miss. Hmmm... Maybe it needs to warm up again. So I start home, nice and easy. Still no miss. I start to wonder, "What could this be?" Then I remember, I just installed a vented hood. The water got in that way, and once the engine sat hot for a little while, the water evaporated and it was fine. Then I raced a mustang and all was well. Scary huh??

Water getting onto the coils cause his hood has a vent in it.

HAHA I've been saying that phrase since 2002 and haven't heard anybody else say it outside a small group of my friends.

Glad that the issue wasn't serious Brendan.

dtowngoalie- It was missing because it was easier for the spark to travel through the water surrounding the coil to ground out versus passing through the air gap in the spark plug. No spark=misfire. It took the path of least resistance.

this is the kinda crap that belongs in the off topic chat or general auto. this RB section is kinda getting cluttered with the same old questions about which engine is better and what i need to swap, and now stories like this.

What are you the forum patrol? If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything. you are right, however. There sure is a lot of crap in this section. most of it is stuff like my RB is missing at 5500 rpm, or I keep boiling my coolant cause my RB is overheating, but it is the only one I ever post in. Delete it if you want, move it, I don't care. I just thought a few other rb owners, who I'm sure some of them have sprayed down their engine compartments and arced out their coils before, would find this post amusing. It's guys like you who have made this forum boring and hostile.

I dont see any problem with stories like this... its the RB section, we all belong to a small population on nissan owners, why cant we hear stories about things other owners go through, especially when their problem might aid in someones issues.

I mean when we get get dumb questions all the time from new people who are in a quest to put a "skrywrine" motor in a S chasis its a relief to see other topics.
