06 m35x, almost 38k miles

Keep in mind I just had the dealer do the 30k mile service and install new rotors front and rear and new pads front and rear.

When I depress the brake naturally from a full stop it makes this creaking sound. If I let off the pedal very slowly I can make the brake pedal vibrate a bit from it. It's also very loud. But the ONLY way to avoid it is if I shoot my foot off the pedal very unsafely and awkwardly, and even then it I still catch that noise for a split second. Something's obviously wrong.

I also experience it sometimes when having the brake down and the car slowing from just a couple of mph to 0. But mostly it's when letting off the pedal from a full stop.

What's causing this? Also, I noticed after getting my brakes put that there was oil/some kind of lubricant still lathered all over one part of my front calipers and had rubbed off onto my rotors but I assume that's supposed to be there.

Thanks in advance.

As a first step have service manager look at brake job, might just be a trainee tech being unclean and sloppy rushed in doing the work? Rotor should be clean and oil/solvent free.

Most brake vibration [various sounds] is caused by pads moving in calipers.Sometime the rotors themselves can propagate sound started by pads and add harmonics. Sometime the transfer film from the pad to rotor is nonlinear creating stick-slip spots around circumference.

You need to use an acoustic spectrum analyser to record the frequency vs amplitude of noise, mathematically analyse to develop a method of attack leading to a solutions. JUST as automotive engineers do!

I had a sound that seems similar to what you hear. I just put new rotors and pads on last week. that sound went away after some driving, I wrote it off as the Zink wearing off where the pads touch the rotors. As soon as I could see the zink was all gone, the noise was gone as well. I would describe my noise as a sort of creaking/groaning sound with a little bit of vibration that would last maybe half a second when I first took my foot off the brake, or if I was not applying very much pressure while being stopped and the car would start to roll forward. But again, as soon as my Zink coating was gone the noise stopped.

Were you able to produce the sound for extended periods by slowing releasing the brake pedal? Because for me it will literally last as long as I am depressing the pedal. Doesn't go away until I've basically let go. Interesting it went away for you after some driving. Do you remember how many miles? At this point I think I've put on about 150 with the new brakes/pads.

Q45tech - thanks. I don't think I'll be doing any audio spectrum analysis haha but good insight at those links. I'm taking my car to a new dealer and hopefully they can fix it (if something needs to be fixed).

Ya if I kept a slight bit of pressure the noise was still there, all the way until I fully released the brake. The noise went away for me around 80 miles or so.

I have exactly the same problem, but only at a stop (when my car stops completely). The problem started after I replaced front brake discs and pads at the workshop a week ago. It is getting worse and worse.

I used to experienced a click type of noise when applying brake, after lubricating the caliper guide pin the noise disappeared right away. But this time is different. I am certain the rattle/creak noise and vibration are coming from both front wheels. I asked someone else to drive my car and let the car stops right next to me and I can clearly tell the noise is from braking.

Any idea why? Much appreciated.

Went back to the work shop, they did not seem to agree with me.
