We've had this car for over three years now and like it, however since it was new, the driver side seat belt makes an annoying creak coming from the buckle area. Our Nissan dealership can only find something wrong when the car is out of warrently and it will cost siginificant a amount to fix. Either way, the noise drive me crazy and I can't imagine that we're the only one with this issue.

If you have reported this issue during warranty period and its documented this should be covered by warranty even after the warranty expires. Have you tried escalating this issue to Nissan Consumer Affairs?

I had similar issue and it was resolved by applying Silicon based lubricant to the Seat belt buckle.

Nope, you're not alone. Mine creaks as well. I came up with the idea the other day of putting some adhesive-backed felt on the buckle where it contacts the seat since this is what causes the creaking noise. Haven't tried it yet though.
I've told the dealer that they were creaking before, and they couldn't ever replicate the noise (even though I notice it on every single drive). My bumper to bumper expires in August, so I might try to have them see if they can replace them before that expires--if that'll even fix it. I need to spend some time in a 2011 Rogue and see if it does the same thing under the same conditions.

Same response I got there. Our warranty expired in Oct 2010 and I guarantee you they'll hear it now! I might just try spraying some silicon lube on it.

Interesting. The only time I get creaking from the driver's seat belt buckle is when I wear my Blackberry in its holster on my right hip.

Be careful about using lube in/around the latch area. These parts are not designed to be lubricated. A dry lube like graphite may be safer to use.

The squeak comes from the base of the buckle assembly where it attaches to the seat. Mine has been squeaking for awhile, just never got around to lubing it yet!

I've got the very annoying drivers seat belt creak noise too, like Philip said the base of the buckle makes some noise, but mine also makes noise from inside the buckle mechanism. Very annoying, I've never complained to the dealer about it because I've always had larger issues to discuss and now I'm out of my 3-year warranty. But I'm starting to learn to live with it and it doesn't really bother me anymore.

Agreed. My concern with spraying any kind of lube into it, would be a possible compromise to any cable connection or anything that might cause it to disconnect in an extreme case. I love Nissan cars and this is our 6th, but I have to say, their service departments have very lax standards when something is in warranty, but let it go over and they'll alert you to an undercarriage scratch. I also have to try to reset our TPMS which has been on for a year and I can't go for at least an $80 charge to reset it.

I'm going to try some dry graphite lube this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

Have you tried spraying that belt connector at all with anything yet??? I brought mine into the Nissan dealer last week, they successfully stopped the sqeak on my driver side but just got back from a long trip and the passenger side is still doing it! I am taking it on a big 12 hour trip in a few weeks and want to fix it, but don't want to have to deal with my dealer again! Any suggestions welcomed!!!

Other than that I LOVE MY ROGUE!!!! Its my favorite car ever!

earl3702, it would seem the best source to ask for a solution would be your dealer who successfully eliminated the noise on the drivers side. I would really like to know what method they used to solve this problem because my buckle is very noisy. Perhaps they replaced the part, if so your service receipt would indicate this, or perhaps they lubricated it, if so it would be nice to know the details. Thanks.

Kerrton. I checked my service receipt and they say they tighted my seat belt at the floor by console, however I cant imagine that something came loose again this fast i mean the fix only lasted like a week. I am so annoyed that this is happening and its both front seats and its not worse than ever. I sprayed everything except the actual buckle was worried about safety :nono: . My dealer called today for a "followup" 6 weeks later and I told them it is still continuing and worse and he says there are no nissan bulletins regarding it so they want to see it again....I have just 11,000 miles on it so I am under warranty and its a lease so eventually I will be rid of this noise. My co-worker has a 2011 SL and hers is not doing that and hers has 8000 miles and mine has been doing it since new pretty much. :wtf2:

Wow, I'm kind of surprised this many people are having this issue. When it happens to me I just press the latch down into the buckle (compress the spring or whatever is in there) and it usually stops. The problem may not be inside but that motion stops the squeak for me. I guess I'll bring it up next time I'm in for service.

Hey. I am new to this forum ( I, too, drive a Nissan Rogue) and one of the things that boil my blood is any rattles and creaks that go on in my car. I also have this seatbelt creaking issue and I finally found out where its coming from. I hope this helps.

This is the Driver seatbelt buckle:

This is the Passenger seatbelt buckle:

The reason why the passenger buckle doesn't creak(or shouldnt creak) is because they have that elastic band that holds it back from the contact point. For manufacturing reasons, the driver seatbelt buckle doesnt come with this elastic band. So the creaking actually comes from metal to metal contact (circled in red):

I just put some electrical tape on it so that it the metals dont come in contact (this is just a temporary fix):

I have tried it for a day, and the tape only reduces most of the noise. I have yet to find something that makes it completely silent. I am pretty sure the noise is coming from those 2 metal pieces rubbing together. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hey dunklo, welcome to the forum and thanks so much for sharing that with us. This is a really annoying issue for me so any potential ideas for a fix are much appreciated.

I'm going to go try to isolate this area as you have done and observe the results, I'll post up what I find. Thanks again!

Dunklo- Could you please email me those pics directly [email protected] I would really appreciate it, it just says loading and won't load the pics :wtf2: sometimes this site gives me issues! I would appreciate being able to fix this myself :rotflmao , I have another appt for the car at my Nissan dealer 10/8 but if you can save me a ferry ride and 1 hour long drive that would be awesome!!! Or if anyone else can view these pics please email them to my above address.

Thanks guys. Anyone check out the new 2012 Rogue? They added some package and new wheels. Im excited my lease is up in a year and I like the new color Graphite Blue and I want an SV with SL package Rogue. I want to upgrade to Leather, Backup Cam, NAV, and the auto headlights. I dont know why it has taken Rogue so long to get them, I used ot have them in my Altima really miss them.

just wanted to update you guys and tell you I finally got rid of the creaking in my seatbelts. I brought it to the dealer again this past weekend and they ended up replacing the whole buckle mechanism. Its only been a day but seems to be working so I hope this fixes it forever, and it was covered under warranty since I only have 12K miles on it. :inoutgay: Good luck to all!!

I was super lazy with mine and just hit the area with a little bit of WD40. Yeah yeah, stuff will stick to it, blah blah. Whatever though, creak is gone and has been since I did it 3 weeks ago, so I'm happy.

I have this same issue with the seatbelt. Although I would describe it as a rapid pen tapping, rather with a creak. None-the-less, I've had it since i bought the car in OCT 2010. Never knew it was an issue i could go to the dealer about. i went through weeks of foolishly jumping around in the car to find the source. but i believe it is inside the seat belt latch. For me, pulling the seatbelt tighter around my waist, after snapping it in, seems to get rid of the sound.
