Just saw this in the "new products" in Grassroots Motorsports, gonna get some as soon as it's on the shelf. CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner is what the label says. The article says it can remove drit, oil and contaminants w/o damage to the wires or housing. It's safe for plastics and dries quickly. $5.99 a can. Just thought you guys would be happy to see this.

Yes, that works too. Pretty much any electrical parts cleaner will do the job.

theres a nice easy way to clean VW's MAF. Get good rubbing isopropyl alcohol. put about 2-3" of alcohol in a zip-lock bag, put the MAf in the bag and swish it around lightly.

remove it and allow it to air dry. use dielectric grease on contact points and re-install. install and call it quits.

dont know if this car be done with a Q MAF, but if someone has a extra its worth a try.

I think there's some confusion here about cleaning the MAF... contact cleaner and dielectric grease and all. I would use the contact cleaner and dielectric on the electrical connections - but not on the screen and sensor itself.

Many contact cleaners have a very light lubricant built in - so you don't want that coating the sensor (remember the problems with oiled filters). I have used brake parts cleaner in the past for the sensor and screen...seems to work well. That said something designed specifically for it sounds better. I always wondered if brake parts cleaner might be a bit harsh.

I just spray mine with brake parts cleaner and never mess with the contacts. Seems to work well for the job... it dries away fast and clean.

if you use contacts cleaner you want to make sure it says "leaves no residue" like on Ozzie's can above.

As good as these two products are, they can be a little harsh on the delicate electronics and fragile plastic. To solve that problem, CRC Industries has just released .... Their Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner is a safe and effective alternative to riskier methods of MAF sensor cleaning.
Most of you that use brake or carb cleaners are probably using CRC anyhow, and it's only $5.99 a can, "certainly cheaper than a new MAF sensor". I'm gonna check Pep Boys this weekend.

Here's the company's product description:

http://www.crcindustries.com/a...0&S=Y

And the MSDS from their website:

http://www.crcindustries.com/faxdocs/msds/5110.pdf

It is available all over the place online.

Thanks for the heads-up Kevin. Having a JWT POP Charger, I have been thinking about cleaning my MAF for a while now.

You actually studied the pic close enough to read that??????

I am impressed!

(And yes, it leaves NO residue! Cleans the screen, probe, wires...... EVERYTHING without a problem)
