People Are Puting Lsx motors, JZ's, RB's, Big block american muscle in 240's, But Im Wondering on the crazy idea of a RB20/25/26 into a Subaru, mostly 06-07 Style. Owning a S13 And seeing the space under the hood, And now owning a Subaru wrx, the space looks dead on similiar.

I know mounts would be custom wiring, etc. etc. but what the heck thought i would ask and see your opinions on FITMENT and why it would or wouldnt work.

As everyone says, with enough time and money, anything can be done and done well. I think one of the main things to verify would be shifter placement and whether the RB transmission would line up anywhere near the stock Subaru location. As long as the engine physically fits in the car, it can be accomplished.

Why would you want to, especially when you would loose AWD?

dont be quick to judge me by my age, just cause im 16 doesnt mean my dreams or goals dont count. i built 2 beautiful 240's and feel in love with the RB's so now i have a new found love of the subaru but im not a fan of the boxer motor. so why not research it and and try to get it to work.

I just want opinions of you guys regarding fitment and what to look out for. becuase all the research in the world doesnt amount to anything that someone has encountered hands on.

No body has done a rb swap that Ive ever seen. Just break out the measuring tape.

Seriously though it sounds like you have a newer subie. Don't mess with swapping out the motor, the EJ's are amazing motors too.

I wasn't bashing your idea, although I don't think it's a good idea for a swap. I was saying your 16 and unless your parents are loaded and love throwing money at you, I don't see how you are going to be able to swing it, even if you dad has a bad a** shop/garage and you do everything you can yourself. Keep in mind something is simple as shifter placement can make the swap all but impossible. Then there is mounting everything, wiring, using the factory gages or not, custom drive shaft, and the fact that you will loose AWD which is the best part of a scooby IMHO. It's just not a good car for an RB swap, and even though you can do anything with enough money, I don't think it would be done "well", and I would question if anybody had enough money to do it, let alone a 16 year old. I'm not trying to be a d!ck, I'm just being realistic.

Good on you for building 2 RB'd S-chassis by time you are 16 though. That's pretty cool, and more than I was doing at that age.

I think it would take some serious radiator support mods to make fit. I think you would have a better chance putting a some sort of v6. I think for the amount of time and money that you would spend doing a swap like this you could have a high hp subie engine that would stomp on the swapped engine. It would be a cool swap but a lot of work.

There is already a Ls1 powered Subaru legacy being built, so it is possible. Just takes time and money.

wish i had the money to build 2 nice 240s and also have a subaru when I was 16.. shoot wish I had the money now. o wells maybe when I finish college in a year and get 2nd lieutenant pinned on when I commission in the Air Force ill be able to catch up to this kid...

no bashing intended, sounds like you may have the cash flow, hopefully from working hard and not from an allowance. Bust out the measuring tape and get this this idea rolling. would be an interesting swap

I think this is the case if he's built, or even owned 2 240's, and now owns a WRX...

I cant believe no one went with the obvious answer. Subaru blocks are 2 cylinders long, and an RB is 6. Sure you can do it, but its a very dumb idea. You could have the block mounted in the same spot and have the RB26 on the timing cover poking out past the subaru's badge in the grill. Or you can cut the firewall and move the motor back 8 feet.

How did I get sucked into this thread.

But seriously, go get the tape measure and do some work, then get the idea out of your head.

There is a good 4- 5 inchs behind the wrx engine and some room in front but i dont think it will fit with out firewall and radiator support mods. yea that swap would be cool but all that money could be put into building a sick wrx engine and then you would have to worry about custom making stuff if you ever have a hose bust, etc.

The stock engine is ~2cyl long, v8s are ~4cyl long, and the rb's are 6. That's a bit of a stretch.

Like I said before its just a daydream. EJ's are amazing motors and due to their boxer/counter weight nature are great high rpm motors.

If you REALLY want to do it, get an engine hoist, a tape measure and welder. Don't back until there's progress

RB into a subie? How about a better imagination and put an EJ into a 240????Imagine the looks people would give you as you drove away with that deep rumble.

Here is my problem with subaru, you buy an SR20 and you can get 400+ out of it wheel without having to really do much to anything ot the internals

and I have seen stock bottom end RB25's get into the 9's (go check the thread on hybrid z if you dont believe m)

The subaru engine.. craps out at lik 350whp (on awd UNK on RWD) and sounds like well in my opionion like a diesel canal boat and is honestly assembled with really s***ty internal parts compared to the 2JZ, LS1, RB26/25/20, and the other big dogs, hell the 4G63 which is 20 years old blows it out of the water for power / $

Exactly my point idn why people Priase the EJ like the motor was bullett proff and best bang for the buck, no matter what when your pushing over 350 AWHP its not a matter of if it will blow, its when, on NASIOC i have yet to find ANY BUILT WITH FORGED EVERYTHING EJ255/257 last more then 10k miles, MY RB20 was pushing 20 PSI all day everyday for a year COMPLETLY STOCK and never gave me a hint of wanting to die.

Sheesh, if NO RB20/25/26 Can Fit Into a Subie Why not an SR20? Cuase a BUILT SR20 i would be Spending probly less then i would be building the EJ every 10k miles cuase it just blows up.

Anyone Care To do me a Favor?

Measure the RB from back of valve cover to the front balancer, also the Depth from valve cover to Bottom of oil pan,and Width from Intake to Turbo Manifold.

I am going to deviate a little bit form the standard topic here, which I really dont think to many people will mind to much

Has anyone else noticed that with the exception of a few engines, like the LS series and maybe some things with the world motor in the evo and the genesis, most of the stuff form the major auto manufactures in the way of stock high power capability engines just sucks?

I understand why, i mean its to make stuff more affordable and the Skyline/Supra and what not where we got our engines from was not exactly cheap or plentiful which is why we b**** about part costs all day long.

But like the EJ, when its brand new, AWESOME, a few years in.... got some miles on it.... maybe beat it really hard, it has its share of problems, and i mean that is given to any engine, but look at from this point of view.

The STi is sold to motorsport enthuiasts as was the Evo 9, the Evo came with the 4G63, which is one of the most powerful 4 cyclinder engines ever (not an SR vs 4G63 argument here) but that engine especially in the evo's is a monster, and pretty roboust (now) as well, easily go past 400whp on the stock bottom end, could use a headgasket probably and a few other things, but still stock rods/pistons/crank. Take an STi right around 350whp and the thing is going to s*** itself in 3 seconds, anything below that as long as you keep your eye on it your fine.

But like I saw a thread on hybrid z just the other day, some one stock bottom end Rb, stock head, just a headgasket and some head studs ran a 9 something quater, even if it was 9.9999999999 just barely in there, he still ran it.

okay I am done
