would it be possible to cut the upper intake manifold to make it shorter? It would have to welded after, and probably extrudehoned. would this be strong enough to work, i know alluminum is hard to weld. i hate the super long intake manifold on my motor, but don't want to spend money boostdesigns questionable intake manifold. thanks

Of course it's possible. You can use an aftermarket universal plenum to weld onto the runners. I used to do that with Chrysler 2.0 engines. Boostdesign's manifold is not questionable for the money. It's a good price for what you get, and it looks effective. However, I've seen much better designs using a rounded plenum and flush velocity stacks.

The intake is two parts. The best way I think would just be to take off the lower plenum, then cut the upper one just after the flange to connect to the lower one. Then cut again to take out however much you plan too. After that, you can just weld the flange back on. Plus it should be close enough to the end that you can use normal ways of sanding and getting the thing smooth on the inside since you'll be able to reach the spot. Then just bolt the lower plenum back on. Don't ask me how well it would work though, I thought about doing it too but I have no experience with intakes, so I can't give you advice on the actual lengths or anything like that.

after looking at the manifold it looks like the long upper runners will need to bent also. i imagine alluminum that thick would have to be heated pretty hot to bend enough. im wondering how much boost a manifold that is stressed that bad could hold.

I'm getting a ka24e intake, not so much to put on, but just to cut it and weld it back (really new to welding so I mostly just want the practice.) If it actually fits up I might test it. I figure if I just get an ebay intake and cut it to fit, I should be fine. I don't plan on bending it or anything, I figure everything weill hopefully still fit even if the lower intake is moved a little bit.

Here is a intake manifold I am working on.

the runners on this manfold are made from the stock runners. I cut the runners down the middle and welded them back together in such a way that they are now tapered with a 2% increase in intake runner area per inch of runner (the stock intake runners are relitively laking in taper).
