Ok, all weekend ive been laying down some hardwood floor in the dining room. After finishing the job i took off to the theatre. While i was driving i looked at my woodgrain and thought about having hardwood floormats made for my car. Whats your guys oppinions on that? If its been done before, could you show me some pics of it? comments, suggestions, and flames... i take em all!

2 things that come to mind are

How would you contour them to the irregularities of the floor boards?

Wouldn't they be slippery as all get out, as you get in and out of the car?

Personally, I prefer matching accents, versus contrasting accents, but ohh I do <3 some hardwood flooring.

snow and rain would ruin those in no time. Slipping was a good point, just immagine getting your feet all icy and having that happen. Even worse would be the constant squeeking of your feet while on the floor

I dont think it is such a good idea, but somebody would have to try it to know for sure

Maybe some 1/4" slate tile? You could run electric heating strips underneath for those cold days....

haha. thanks guys, that was totally what i had hoped for.. some reasons why it wouldnt be a good idea! Definately the squeaking and slipping would be my biggest concern. Hmm... where else could i put some woodgrain? maybe in the trunk for a sub enclosure?

Why bother?... it's in the Trunk! You could upholster the sub with pink panties and no one would care.

Why bother? i mean obviosuly you cant always see it, but then wahts the point of having anything in the trunk, like carpeting? Itll be quite the accent for the shows. Where everyone has those damned ugly neon lights and such, id much rather have some nice wood grain or something similar.

I can understand if you're doing it for shows. Manufs wouldn't sell too many cars without carpeting in the trunk. It acts as an insulator, sound/vibe dampener etc and adds that luxurious touch. Sorry, wasn't trying to be smart, but was trying to understand why.

Another idea is to just go to WalMart and buy some woodgrain contact paper and wrap your current floormats. You would not have to worry about trying to get the contour of the floor.

With any leftovers, you could create a wooden insert the length of each side. You would probably be the first on this board to have a Q45 Woody!

I've seen laminate hardwood floors in show vans, and car trunks. Looks pretty clean to me, I like the trunk idea for the Q.

yea... the floormat idea is pretty much out the window for me. But the wood grain on the sub/amp enclosures would look delicious!

On Top Gear they fitted a W140 S-class with hardwood floors, a lamp, book shelves, and a chimney furnace. Needless to say, it didnt work.
