ok... ive been reading a british car magazince about imports and i found out their importing process... and one of the steps is that they convert the kmh speedo to mph by adding a little electronic device...... all it does is cut the signal down from the normal 100/100kmh to a 62.5/100 kmh so it makes a 180kmh speedo into a 180 mph speedo.... so i was thinking that you could swap in a jdm cluster from a s13 or s14 silvia, then add the device to it and.... BAM!

then you have a 180 mph speedo..... yay!

so it would work.... right?

Here is a write up to change our KPH Speedos to MPH, hence a 180MPH Speedometer. This is one of the Tech Articles on Zeroyon. http://www.zeroyon.com/index/content/view/20/47/

Then, of course, you would have to take your 240 to 180mph to actually check that out... oh thats right, its near impossible to get your car to 180mph. Also, do you think the VSS could actually handle it?

That's the exact excuse you need to drop an RB25/26 motor in.

I need to verifiy that my speedo mod worked, therefor I need this Skyline motor. Instant purchase!!!

He says in the article that you need a signal generator to test with. You actually don't, you just need a breadboard, a 555 timer chip, and a good multimeter that can read frequency.

Sorry I didnt mean to saound like an as$ (yeah right, lol) but It would take a buncha money to make a skyline motor get your 240 up to 180mph. I can see 160 happeneing with a normal budget...

Who cares if you don't hit 180, at least you know when you are going faster than 120.

Not so true there was a guy on here I believe his name is "robdet" he got his t28 powered sr up to 196 I think. He had AEM standalone and posted the datalogging graphs. I'm sure it took a little bit of road but he did it.

Yeah, some road and 8400rpms. I don't know whether to call BS or salute the guy. That must've been some heavy tuning. Doesn't the stock SR redline at like 7200-7500? Unless he modded the gears, like throwing in a 3.9 final drive or something else, he had to have been pushing that engine for a while something like 1000rpms over redline. Geez.

Also, I'm inclined to agree with 2BN... I doubt we could get our 240sx's to anything over like 150 on the road... why? Because ONE bump, ONE swerve, hell, ONE good gust of air, and we'd be blown off the road like origami. Without proper suspension tuning to keep all four wheels on the ground, what is it worth to go faster than 150mph?

An engine that can push the car over that speed and a speedo to SHOW it to you would easily justify a functional front lip, a functional wing, and a killer suspension drop and tune. Pull that off and then, DAYUM.

Wangan!

Track Racing, for those with the budget?... and the balls to go that fast. I don't even like going 100 in the 240

Like someone said, it's nice to know when you've gone past 120.

FYI, this isn't really anything new either.

okay im gonna be blunt and to the point

unless you can go that fast why the hell would you want to do that?

tahts pointless

if you wanna see how fast your going over 120 get a 140mph speedo chances are none of us will hit 180, but if someone does please taek teh time to take a few pictures fo the speedo and try nto to wreck int he process

good luck on aerodynamics. a S14 usually has the front end rise up at around 120-125mph. there are reasons cars like Ferrari and Porsche have the entire car made to go speeds that fast. our cars aren't suppose to. want to die or something?

Besides the obvious theories and specualtion that were in another thread months ago, I would like to remind you all that after you get above a certain speed, your speedometer is no longer accurate.

Principles like friction along with the lift your car experiences while speeding that fast change your suspension geometry (I believe that is the correct way to use that) so there is noo actual way to tell how fast you are really going without a independant source of reference (radar gun, etc.).

2bn is right about the speedo not being accurate after a certain speed. 180 is a 240 is well attainable. my brother in his civic hatch has seen 175 and it was still pulling. however, he let off. with the right set of gears and downforce and motor, a car's possibility is endless

160 is still a long way from 115/120 where our car's speedo tops out.

That's quite the Civic...
kuramaya wrote:I have seen an S14 go 180mph on a Dyno
Getting the wheels spinning isn't the problem...the problem is the fact that you're gonna have the equivalant to about 450HP pushing you backwards at that speed, so unless your engine is putting out that much, you're going to be accelerating backwards.Once your engines power matches the force per second pushing you backwards, it's physically impossible to accelerate further.

But back to the point, if you want a really high speedo, go for it. But isn't the speedo labeled in KmpH?If you're actually concerned about knowing how much faster you're going above the speed limit, beyond what the stock speedo says, I think Apexi makes a neat little dohicky.
