Hey.. my A/C seems to enjoy cycling it self on and off when it's warm outside.. like on for 10 seconds off for 5 back on etc etc.. just randomly.

On a site note, i'd like to thank my new brakes for saving my arse.. I had some major warping on the front rotors, shaked like a mofo when I stopped, so I replaced all 4 rotors and pads.. was driving w/ my friend on howe ave and I was talking to him about my a/c, he looked forward and pointed.. im going like 30 and the car infront of me is completely stopped so I hit the pedal, she made one little tire squeal and just stopped.. I was so lucky, I actually stopped like 10 feet from the guy but it was just scary.. NEW PADS + ROTORS = OWNAGE!!!

Anywho if someone could help with my AC problem i'd be mucho greatful, it's a 93 w/ R134a, I added a can or two of the refrigerant + booster about a year ago... could it be an issue w/ the low pressure side [??]

if you have a set of guages check the pressures at the temps we had today should have been around 175 to 200 on the high side and about 45 on the low side. you may have over charged it and it cylces when the pressure gets to high. Does it blow cold otherwise?

Blows nice and icey cold when it's on.. can totally feel the difference when it cycles on and off..

do you have a set of gages to check it?

my dad prolly does.. while we're on the basic subject, do you happen to know the fix for a stubborn vents? It changes when it feels like it.. I greased up the motors and the sliders n what not but it still doesnt do what it should be doing [granted it works better than it used to]

What should I be looking for on the gauges?

I dont quite understand what your talking about with the vents???

on the guages you want to see if the high pressure side is climbing up around 300 psi and the low side drops to under 20 would indicate its over charged. watch the pressures as it cycles you will see that it cycles at almost a precise psi every time if it doesent do as I mentioned above post what the readings are at the cycle point.

the vents like..

Lets say the air is coming out of the front vents.. push the defrost button, and it doesnt change.. ie the motor that changes where the airflow is coming out of is not changing as it should, it still works - when it wants to. I greased everything up down there, it helped but it still does not switch air flow to the correct vents sometimes

does the light in the control panel indicate the new position you select or does it stay with the vent that it is currently blowing out of? If so you have a problem in the control unit. It may still be the control unit but that would be a for sure indication that is it.

The light changes correctly [push the floor vent button and it lights up, but sometimes still stays on defrost or front vents etc.]

Turn the a/c on, it lights up & seems to work fine when it's cooler, when it gets warm it will cycle & the light cycles w/ it as well.. Might just be the timing but it seems like if i tap the control unit it'll kick it back on for a sec then it kicks back off..

have you checked you pressures yet. look for what I mentioned above but also look for both sides to be very low as that would indicate its low on freon.

as far as vents go I think a wiring diagram and a volt meter is the only way to go here to test to see if the control unit is actually sending the signal to the actuator to change the vent mode.
