How far does the lever come up? maybe it needs adjustment.

There is an adjustment screw in the e-brake lever. From what i remember i think its a 10 or 8mm.

1.lift the shift lever as high as possible. there should be a hole on the underside of the boot2. 10mm or 8mm and adjust to personal preference or FSM specs.

won't make too much of a difference to use a stainless steel hand brake line...

ya sure you have some pad left on your back brakes? and if so use the 10 mm deep socket it under your e-brake lever and adjust it.

-Pull e-brake as high as possible-on the buttom of the e-brake lever. on the side facing the front of the car there should be a a little whole you can stick things into in this case you stick a deep socket in it. and adjust to your liking :-D
