So i'm sure the motor is tore up now. My mechanic heard the engine and said it was definitely bad. So i'm thinking of either buying another rb25det engine and starting over or puting in forged internals if possible. What would you guys do.

found new rb25det here in texas. Gonna pick it up and drop it in. Then sell the whole car for $9,000. Great deal if you ask me.

Do me a favor and sell it outside of San Antonio, so I can be the only one with a running RB25DET in SA again

Seriously though, sorry to see you have had such a rough time with your car. What's the plan for the next project? I have a nice TII I could sell you for 9k

Bro it makes this really ugly clanking noise when turned over. Sounds like a box of rocks when you rotate it. I'm sure it's severly damaged. Anyhow, on the bright side. I found a brand new engine setup. Wiring harness, ecu, motor with all stock items. So that one goes in and this one comes out. I'm starting all over again and this time i won't fail. Sending the ecu harness to be professionally done. New water pump and thinking about new oil pump. Haven't decided. I'm running it stock forever no boosting up or upgrades besides the blow off valve. I'll take a video clip of what sound it's making and you guys can laugh. It no s--T sounds like someone rattling a box of rocks.

why it went bad. What can i say i'm a Damn Ricer. I got challenged by my cousin and we (crx 89 t3/t4 modded ecu) went at it. I had him but started to misfire at topend. I have no idea wtf happened. Was running great then it died at a red light and that when it started to do the clanking noise.

id really suggest taking it apart man.

stop cranking, and take it apart. it may still have some usable parts on it. but you keep trying to crank it your probably gonna finish it all off.

i haven't cranked it since sunday. only 2 times i've cranked since it's made that noise. F taking it apart i'm getting a new rb. The one i have has had demons since i've bought it. I'd burn the damn think but i'll end up needing some parts from it.

You probably leaned out way to much, and it melted something or broke something, which, its pretty damn hard from what i hear to take out an RB25.

Have soem common sence, your Mechanic can not just tell you the Motor is bad by just listening to it unless your rod is knocking or somthing of that nature. Something as small as a vacuum / exhaust leak can make your motor sound 'bad'. But you will NOT know until you troubleshoot. Selling the motor / getting rid of it and just buying another one is an easy way out, and not necessarily the smart way out.

The other thing you want to keep in mind it costs alot more than a Gasket Kit and pistons to rebuild your motor. There are ALOT of other variables. COme on kid !!

^i think hes made up his mine.

im pretty amazed someone is going off a sound to buy a whole new engine. but i guess if you got the money.

KUILLIN_DRIFTER: did you do the swap yourself? maybe i could understand a bit better if you dont have the resources/time to rip the engine out and rip it apart.

i mean even if you still wanna do that it just takes a weekend (even a day) to lift the engine out and dig into it to see EXACTLY what happened

im sorry, did you say you are REPLACING your engine based on a sound?!

are you high?! tear that ***** apart and find the problem. what if it isnt in the engine? give me a break! this is the worst possible thing to do. dont ever replace random stuff till you find the problem.

man you guys don't remember all the post i put up since i've done this swap. I think the motor was crap when i bought it last year. The sound. Ha. I'm taking video of it tonight and then you guys will understand. There's no way in hell it's not something major. Rod or piston is clanking when cranking over. You can hear it clearly. But, as you guys say it is something stupid yet, look at what i've done to it. Nothing. It's stock and i'm not gonna waste the time to crack it open and then spend the $2000 on rods, pistons, gaskets, install cost. And to clear up the time deal. I work 10hrs a day 6 days a week as an AVIONICS ELECTRICIAN on C17A aircraft. I am not arguing, I'm just informing everyone of the constant headache this swap has been since i started it. I figure this time i'm having my mechanic do the engine uninstall install then with the new harness i'm getting. sending it away to be professionally done. That way if something goes wrong i can point fingers at everyone else than myself. Because right now i feel soo pissed off that the damn motor crapped on me. I checked every sensor and wire on that harness to the standards of the mechanics book. So, honestly i'm upset at the whole situation and want to restart fresh with a new swap. and that's that.

And by the way. I have appreciated all the help everyone has given yet why do people have to make rude comments about this situation or about me. Calling me a kid becuase i'm stressed out about this swap. Go back and read some of the posts and problems i've had with this engine and you'd agree that something has been wrong with it this whole time. Honestly, keep the rude comments away. I've never said anything like that to anyone here and i intend not to because not everyone here has the technical knowled as some here or the expierence.

ok, we understand you work a lot and time is valuable.

but just see how were seeing it. i can understand if this is maybe your DD? which i really hope not. but take some time, save yourself some money. and just take it apart. It probably is that bad, but just going off a sound is not the right way. but arent you curious too? hell it might be something else. trace the problem down as best you can. if you just put a little more time you might save yourself a lot of money. and we all know time is money
