My 95 240sx has a strange problem. It starts up and runs fine, perrs like a new car. Then after 30 seconds its starts to sputter and then dies regardless of weather you hold your foot on the gas or not. The problem is not a vacume leak, nor is it AFM related.

I checked the codes and got a 31 ECU fault and 82 CAS. Did the ECU pop or could the crank angle sensor cause all this trouble?

I had a crank angle sensor fault before. Turns out the heat shield was wrecking havoc on it. Have a quick look, it may just be loose. That alone wont cause it to die out though.

Thanks MikeMurphy. I thought I had heard that the car would run without the crank angle sensor. So, I guess the ecu is dead. Man these things are expencive at junk yards around here.

31 Powertrain control module (PCM) Problem

Does the 91 OBDI ECU have the same connector as the 95 OBDI connector?

Mike, are you sure? How can I tell? I know that for the first half year of prodution the 95 was OBDI then it went to OBDII. It would be awsome if I can use the ECU from a 97+ because they have one at the junkyard here.

I dont think OBD1 has a code for a malfunctioning crank angle sensor, thats how I know. If someone thinks otherwise, feel free to correct me.

Mine is OBD2 as well. I dont see why a 97 ECU wouldnt work. I think some of the plugs on the harness may be different but the ECU pinout should be the same as well as the functionality of the readings. Im not 100% sure though. I would give it a try.

I suggest you wait for someone else who is knowledgable to come on here and confirm what I have said, or totally discredit it. Also, dont forget to unplug your battery before you remove the ecu, and plug the batt. back in after you have the new ecu plugged in, if you do in fact go this route.
