Argh! I smashed the @#$% out of my pinky when the prybar popped out trying to pry this sucker off, its rusted on.. any ideas? might have friend bring over his mini-torch and try torching the sucker and hope that the pully heats up more than the crank (likely as the crank has more surface area to dissipate heat) and then loosen to get it off...

The crank pulley?

I rented a 3 claw 5 ton puller from autozone to get it off.

no not the crank pully

that came off with just some wiggling

the timing belt pully behind the crank pully... or is that what you meant? (by just 'crank pully' i make the assumption you mean the crank accessory belt pully not timing pully)

doesn't look like a claw puller would fit around the timing belt pully w/ the oil housing there but i ahven't tried yet..

they are almost *ALL* welded on... search some old threads on it, but you're probably going to have to break it to get it off... time to start drilling:)

to get mine off I had to tapp holes into it for bolts and then use a custom puller... my friend brazed a tooth back on for me when we were all done :| was a pain

well I've killed the oil pump, good thing I was planning on replacing it anyways out of paranoia.

was trying to use the whole pump to pull it off by prying on both sides, a huge chunk came off the right side of it where the oil dipstick goes... but now that we got that off, we get the whole oil pump to rotate and can see that we might be able to disassemble the pump, so we're gonna take the crank out w/ pump attatched, try and disassemble it, put it back in (mainly just so we don't have to hold it ourselves) and then try a pully puller on it.. :/

grr i may have to invest in an air cutoff gizmo and do it like f s t caz did...

naturally disassembling pump is senseless, since it doesn't split in two to come off.. but we did beat the crap out of it and get the pully to move a bit more, but not enough to put a puller on it, we tried pulling the whole pully assembly but that didn't do much better either...

I'm just gonna stop working on this motor and take apart the other and hope i'm more succesfull when i get to the crank, ...

drill two holes on either side of the crank, tap them, put bolts in them, use a pulley puller. That works every time.

Sometimes even that doesn't work...

The Z32 has a similar cog, but its THICKER... imagine that. Anyway, I've had to cut a number off in my time, but the last one that was a pain, I WD'd, torched, pryed, hit, banged, pulled (tried to pull w/ a puller), cut (with a cutter like my brother f s t caz did), and even air hammered it... and it FINALLY broke loose... but I fuggered the guys oil pump cover... argh... =( And that was from the PRY BAR!!! Not anything else... go figure. Sorry to hear about your issues, but even the most tried and true methods don't always work.

yeah thats how I broke the oil pump cover on mine.. its interchangable per the part #'s with KN13 pulsar so I'm not worried, I was definately gonna want to replace the pump anyways..

my friend had a similar problem with his DSM... except he f'd up and misaligned the cog with the key on the crank and he didn't know that's why he couldn't tighten it on so he took an impact wrench to it for a good half our before realizing what he'd done. I was helpin him and we tried crowbars, screwdrivers, wrapping cable around it and pullin it off but nothing worked. I finally stole a 2-prong puller from my brother, put a useless socket in the middle of the cog and cranked the sucker off. Surprisingly its still good and after a little filing of the key and the slot on the cog it fit back on perfectly. Two or three prong puller is definitely the way to go.
