After searching and looking around I will guess that the CA18DE crankshaft and the CA18DET crankshaft are the same. Can anyone confirm this?

Also can anyone point me in a direction to possibly buy or have a Crankshaft balanced?

Thanks much,Dave

Yes the crank shaft on the ca18de and the ca18det are the same, as well as the connecting rod bearings, mainbearings, oil pump, head, valves, the only difference between the two engines are the pistons low compression on ca18det and the injectors, 370cc on the ca18det.

i hope that helped.

Don't forget the rods! The DET has beefier rods compared to the DE's.

sorry if this is slightly off topic but every now and again i hear about the ca18det suffering from crank bearing failure.. is this common with all ca18dets or is it a result of the engine taking a severe beating?

Before these engine get to the U.S., Canada, Australia or wherever, most don't know the extent of the abuse the motor has endured. A mere peek into the valve covers can give you a godd idea about the previous life of the engine. After 5 engines, I've never had a bad one nor have I ever had bearing failure and I treat my engines to a good trashing.

For a new one you could try your local ripoff artist (Nissan dealer), or Tomei Japan. If you can't find any, contact me i have a used one that i can sell, i could also arrange the needed machine work (regrinding and balancing). Shipping should be no problem i'm located in Europe also.:)

Chezina,

I am definetly interested, if you could find out how much you would want after re-grind, and balance I would really appreciate it.

When you balance a crank you should also have the rods, pistons, flywheel, pressure plate, and front pulley there too so they can balance everything individually and then balance it all together. JUST balancing a crank wont really work ;)

wait... i never heard of a difference between rwd DE and DET rods? Is this only true on FWD CA's or does a RWD CA18DE also have smaller rods than a RWD CA18DET?

RWD CA18DE's have the same rods as the U.S. CA18DE engines. All CA18DET engines have the bigger rods while the DE models have the skinnier versions.

I have to find out the price on monday, can't get anyone now at the machine shop. LIke Nathan said it's best to have the front pully, flywheel and clutch cover balanced at once(we can work that out too if u want/need it). :) My email: [email protected]

or you could send it to drp or someone to have it kinfe-edged and balanced. they cost a small fortune though. i think it would be much cheaper to find a good machine shop to knife-edge it and balance it properly, though i dont know if they would be able to balance the whole piston/rod/crank assembly as one. with knife-edging you'd need a good oil pump i think, or some way of keeping the engine lubricated, since i hear engines with this done can starve under high-load.

Don't know about the SOHC 18s or the stateside DOHC by my Silvia's DE has the same rods as the DET, crank girdle as well but no piston oilers. The block could be drilled and tapped for the oilers though, the gallery is the same. Working with a CA20 at the moment I can tell you the rods be skinny

So he finally sent you the motor, huh? Are you gonna open it up or just add-on and boost?

AAAHHHH, I want to start taking it apart, but I have no tools :D oh well, tomorrow I guess...
