I bought another S14, and checking for codes, I've got the crankshaft position sensor code. The car was A/T at first and was converted to manual, so I'm assuming the previous owner used an S13 transmission without that sensor on the bellhousing as when I did the swap on my kouki I used the proper S14 transmission. My question is what does it change to run without that sensor, I know it's related to OBD, but the engine seems to run fine without it. So do I have to drill and install that sensor or is it pretty much useless?

Also, I got the knock sensors and O2 sensor codes (the 2nd one), so I'll be changing them too. About the 2nd O2 sensor, is it really necessary? The car still has the original exhaust, but my other S14 doesn't and it kept throwing codes (no more cat), so I'll be getting a O2 simulator for it. But other then not burning the optimal amout of fuel, is there any other repercussions on running without the 2nd O2 sensor?

Thanks.

The sensor that's on the bellhousing is only used for diagnostic testing so there's no need to have it.

Normally the 2nd O2 sensor should be connected. By not having it in operation, the ECU will set a fault code, MPG will be affected and if your state does emissions testing, car will most likely fail.

Yeah the crank angle sensor is for diagnostics.. just has a small magnet deal on it.

I would first fix the 02 sensor then worry about the knock sensor. It's hard to get at located directly under the intake manifold on the side of block.

A friend of mine is running one his 96 s14, has a hotshot header and no bung for the 02 sensor. Bought that simulator and it cleared the CEL.

thanks a lot for the help. I'll get that simulator, great price. I have a few longblocks laying around, I should have a few knock sensors in spare. I also heared dipping the knock sensor in alcohol for a day makes wonders, so once I'll change it I'll try it out on the defective one and see if the myth is bs.

Again, thanks for the help.
