Inspecting my new long block, I noticed some play in the crankshaft, a few people said its normal, and some said its not good. Well I called Enjuku Racing, and they told me that the thrust bearings is supposed to take up all the play, he sounded a lil unsre about "all the Play" though. So I got out the calibers and measured exactly how much end play there was and I got 3,000's of an inch, not to much, but I was wandering if it shouldnt have any or whats normal on these, oh S13 redtop is what this is.

Thanks,Brian

According to the FSM the limit of free end play is .0118 in. Standard is .0039-.0102 in.

personally, i would rather not have free play. Every SR I've worked on has had no free play in the crank, but the FSM does give limits to the free play, and you are in spec.

Depending on the state of your bearings, and how tight on cash you are, you might be able to sneak by with just a set of thrust washers. Granted if you're going to be pulling the girdle off anyways, you might as well replace the bearings as well.
