It was a brilliant scheme. Give out a "Top 5%" award to every crappy page on pages.prodigy.net, Geocities, or members.aol.com, then get people to click the badge and visit your directory/search site at pointcom.com

WEB 1.0. SO NAIVE.

In 1996 the internet was something my dad used in the laundry room with the door closed.

When Yahoo first got voice chat I used to yell at strangers for no reason. I'd sometimes put an annoying Britney Spears song on repeat and leave a weight on the space bar to play it in the chatroom over and over, then leave my apartment for hours.

Smart people would block me, but most folks weren't that bright.

yeah, surfing p0rn back in the day was real work. Watching pics render line by line on a dial-up connection.

"yes, yes, bewbies, nipples, whoa appendix scar! Back back back!"
"f***, five minutes wasted and now I'm flaccid."

The worst was when a picture of a transmission loaded, and you didnt know until you were halfway done fapping as the image crawled down.

Just kidding it was a bonus.

HAHA

Prodigy.net. I remember them. Remember when you could buy a desktop computer for $200 if you signed up for a 2 yr contract with an ISP provider? And how many there were? I remember the crappy Compaq we had in 96-97 and all the viruses it got. AOL chat rooms. I also recall my brother using the computer and my sister smashing buttons on the phone upstairs to make it lose the connection. Lots of sibling fights back then because there was only one phone line. Good times. :chuckle:

I always thought GeoCities was a stupid name for a webhosting portal. I still think so.

I still turn up useful stuff on dead or geocities sites when searching for obscure things sometimes. Lots of Red Dwarf sound clips on one, for instance.

Yea I rember AOL chat and all the: "Hello. a/s/l? any nude pics?" And the 90 day trial CDs we used to get in the mail. I remember trying to watch p0rn at night when everyone was asleep but the Dial-up was so loud and it would take like 15 to 30 minutes to watch a crappy Pron clip.
