Can someone let me know what size socket I need for the crank pulley blot. I need to change my timing chain this weekend, in hopes of findiong a hole in the timing cover, and want to pick up the tools that I am going to need and don't have. Any specialty tools I might need that I am not aware of? Thanks

Sorry, 89 240sx SOHC

as far as specialized tools, a pneumatic impact wrench makes removal of the bolt much easier.

Wish I had one, and don't really have the money for it. I'm gonna try by hand first and pray. Someone I know told me if the motor spins the right way, I can bump the key with the breaker bar held on the floor and it will break loose. If I have to I am going to try that second.

That method works pretty well, but just remember you have to torque it back down when you're done and you can't use the starter method.

You can have someone in the car holding the brakes while in 5th gear while you torque it down.

If my chain did eat through someplace to cause oil and antifreeze to mix, where is the most likely spot? Got almost everthing off tonight except for the oil pan and timing cover. Where am I looking for a problem and is tyhere a way I can get it pressure tested? Thanks for all the help.

I think you would see it on the tensioner side, although I haven't ever really seen it happen, every time I've seen it the guides have been there.

You would really notice, I would think, considering a chain ate a hole in it.

I found it. Actually it is not on the tensioner side. The tensioner is still there and in one piece. I just gotta drop the pan and get all the new parts in. After I get the cover welded up. Do you know if the motor actually gets up high enough still connected to the motor mounts to get the pan out. In the manual I have it says to jack the motor up while still atatched to the mounts. Thanks for all the great help.

I've never had to do it, but from what I've heard from others, you undo the bolt on the bottom of the mounts and jack up the car under the oil pan. When it's up high enough you put a large socket under each mount and let the motor sit on those. It should be enough room to wiggle the oil pan out, provided you can break the seal while it's like this....

If someone else knows how to do this, please chime in.
