This is what another member had to say in another thread and I have seen/heard/ and been told this as well.
Cranks are the same. But came in three variations, IIRC. The only difference is in bearing clearance, and only when using Nissan bearings. If you have it turned, this goes out the window.
Funny story, in 1991 when Nissan decided to make the 240 w/ DOHC, they kind of hacked it together. This is apparent if you spent any time under the timing cover of either motor. On the single cam they use one gear to drive the cam, on the DOHC, that gear became a cam chain idler, which runs a second chain. Basically, with the exception of the pistons and the oil squirters, the DE is just an E with a different head.
Yes, you will be fine switching cranks over, along with most bottom end components.
