I'm confused. after correctly aligning the new timing belt, for the second time just to be sure I got it right, I still can't hand crank the engine.

plugs are out, and the car isn't in gear.

this problem occurred as soon as I got everything back on.

I haven't tried starting the car because i don't want to bend valves if that's what's interfering, and there's no way the valves bent previously because the car ran perfectly before.

it's the only thing holding me back from getting back on the road. any one experience the same thing or know how I can get the crank to rotate a full 360 again??

Does it feel like it's seized or more like there's something preventing the rotation? Did you need to take the crank pulley off? Is there a bar still in place? Could try putting the clutch in. Did you just swap them over, or did you line it up TDC, etc.?

it's hard to say, it just rotates about 90-degrees, then TOK. stops, more like a block if anything.

crank pulley did come off, replaced the timing belt, water pump, seals, etc.

I lined everything up to the new OEM belt marks, and the rear cam cover dots.

I haven't tried putting the clutch in. curious, how may that help?

and the belt had to be removed off of TDC, the crank gear pulled a couple teeth off the old belt when I was hand-rotating it to TDC, and it wouldn't catch enough to rotate everything else.
then when the belt came off the cams rotated to their resting position, which left me to hand-rotate them into alignment with the crank gear, etc.

problem now is I can't rotate it to TDC to restart the process.
if the belt is removed off TDC, is there a special way to find out how to realign it all to where there is no contact?

UPDATE. so I know for sure there's no piston-valve contact, I checked each cylinder with my buddy's probe cam, all the valves are closed, and piston #1 is still set as close to TDC as I could get it. there's not even marks of contact on top of the pistons. so I know for sure there isn't and never was contact.

so could something about the transmission, flywheel, or starter be affecting the full rotation of the crank?

You sure your just not putting enough muscle into it lol it goes easy then gets hard to turn briefly etc. if your sure there is no contact and your not in gear it should turn.
