Can anyone give me a tip on removing the big 27mm crank shaft pulley nut? I'm in the process of rebuilding my sr and I didn't really think of this untill today when it came down to removing the crank...

Just make it so the crank wont turn,If its on the engine stand get a screw driver and stick it some were on the flywheel so the crank wont turn. Then push as hard as you can.It sould just start to loosin. But it will be torqued down pretty hard.around 110lbs.

one other, easy way, is to use an impact gun. But I"ve used the screwdriver/prybar trick a dozen times. Just thread a couple flywheel bolts back onto the crank and use them as leverage against the stand's backing plate.

Put the ebrake on, put it in 5th gear. (Yes, 5th. because you want torque delivered to the wheels to be as less as possible so you dont move the car around) Get a breaker bar and hollow pipe if you have one to slip onto the breaker bar for extra leverage.

EDIT: just re-read your post... Oops sorry. Yea last time I did it, I stuck a bolt through the flywheel and the hole on the opp side and just used a breaker bar to loosen it.

4th gear works better than 5th from my experience. Mainly do to the fact that 4th is a 1:1 ratio gear.

if you wedge the bar in there properly, you can do it on your own. screw two bolts into the flywheel, then wedge your bar inbetween those, but lay it on one of the stand's bolt hole extensions.

I got it...I ended up putting a few main caps back on then wedging a peice of wood between the case and the crank weights. I was a little scared of putting all that stress on the flywheel bolts. Now I just need to figure out were I am going to get it machined... also, does anyone know if the sr20de bearings are the same as the T? I wanted to get them from Napa to avoid any conflict if I had to return them. What kind of bearings should I get?

I know, this thread is pretty old but I have a question pertaining to it. The theory of getting the crank pulley bolt out by using the flywheel bolts sounds the best and only option with the engine being outside the car.

My problem is that mine is on the engine stand, but no flywheel. When I bought the engine for a rebuild, it didn't have the flywheel. Any suggestions on how to get that bolt out so I can remove everything else?
