So I'm diagnosing a crank, no start issue '98 Pathy. Can someone clarify if the following is correct:

96-04 VG33

Wire furthest to drivers side on 6 pin distributor plug should read 6-8 Hz on frequency meter while cranking engine. Ground to battery.

I tried to back probe the wire, there is a little foam insulation but I could feel edge of metal deeper inside. Also tried with plug out and probe in socket hole being careful not to damage anything, able to reach metal without spreading or warping metal and plastic hole.

I'm getting nothing on my meter.

That sensor is $80 on Amazon and a 5 minute job to replace. It is located on the bell housing and held in with a single bolt. I just did mine a short time ago and it was the easiest thing I have done to the truck since owning it.

You could buy it, try it, and if it works that was your issue. If it doesn't send back the part.

DO NOT BUY THAT SENSOR, that is not the correct one for your vehicle.

This is the correct one

Oh yes. I am sorry. I did not look at his model year!

The one I posted was for a 2003-2004 Pathfinder.

It was soon enough to let me edit so I changed the link to the correct one for his year. Thanks for catching that.

How did you get to the bolt? From up top or underneath?

It looks like I can get the sensor at my local stealer ship around the corner for 60, lol.

I got it out, but there seems to be a missing o-ring? All the pictures seem to be missing an o ring. Is that groove for an o ring?

You have to get it from underneath. That is a good price. I don't even bother checking with the dealership here, but maybe I should.

No, there is no o-ring. The old sensor did not have one and the new one doesn't either. It doesn't come in contact with any oil so there is no need for an o-ring. I think the groove just helps to keep water out a little bit.

Has anyone used any type of shim when there is chipping / nicking on magnet from apparent contact with teeth?
