ok i am doing a timing chain job and i am replacing the crank seal. the one i got is just a round rubber seal with a small spring in the center of it. i took out the old one in the timing cover and had to pry out a small metal ring that was in the crank hole.

i got it all out and just put in the new seal but it didnt have any metal type ring with the new one. then i just put a round silver plate thing (i think i put it in the right way) then the crank pulley. is this correct?

did i install the crank seal right? first i put the seal in the timing cover and tapped it all down nice and flat. then put cover back on over chain, then put on circled metal plate when put on crank pulley and tightnes down the bolt. is this right? while tightening down the bolt i could see the metal plate pushing in the crank seal. did i do it right?

It looks right to me. However, when I installed my crank seal and key, the cover was already installed back on the motor.

Where'd you get the crank seal? The OEM ones from the dealership are supposed to have that metal spring installed on the seal. I'm assuming that it's to keep the I.D. nice and tight to prevent leaks.

Also, this thread should have been in the Nissan mechanics forum.. Look at the sticky above. Repair questions need to posted there. The guys in that forum are a lot smarter anyway.
