As the title says the crank in my VH rotates about 90° then hits a point where I can't turn it anymore...I'm just wondering if there's anywhere that I should look first ....ie common problems that would cause this before I rip it apart. Its out of a 95 and I've seen as far as the upper chain guides and the cams. I can rotate it either direction and it has been sitting for a long while without running....anything helps because I really hoped to hear it run this month.

I would check to see if the timing is off. That can cause the pistons to hit the valves and stop the crank from rotating fully. There are dots on the crank and cam gears that mark locations that the chain is supposed to line up with. You might have to clean the timing chain to see, but it should have some silver and gold links. I forget which color goes with which, but the two links that are of the same color should sync with the marks on the cam gears and the link that is of a color by itself should line up with the mark on the crank gear. You might have to guess were the timing should be at first. If you are close enough you will be able to rotate the crank fully. Then you can rotate to see if the colored links match with the timing marks. They wont match all the time. You might have to rotate the crank more than a dozen times before they line up, because the number of links in the chain is not proportional to the number of teeth on the gear. Hope that helps.
