I am finding conflicting info on the timing marks on the crank pulley of my 88 z31. Does it start at 0 then 5 degrees for each mark or does it start at -5 degrees?

it might vary on the model, zero is generally a larger hash mark, you could always pull the cam cover and watch the cam for tdc on #1, the cam lobes will be pointed either up or down at 45 degrees off center depending on if it's a tdc compression or exhaust stroke, either way your timing mark should be at zero.

Thanks, I made it a point to call 4 nissan dealers in the area. 2 stated your answer above and 1.....well.....not so good. I also concluded that the 7 hash marks are at 5 degree intervals. Again, thanks.
