As the title reads I'm trying to get the damned pulley off but since I'm a worthless brute I cant figure it out. Yes i've removed the bolt(PITA) and since I dont like to waste everyones time I searched and found out I needed a pulley puller. I went to autozone and they gave me one but I dont think its the right one or maybe I just cant follow simple instructions. Here are two pictures to show what they gave me. If its the right tool please explain how to use it as if you were talking to a 5 year old. If not then what do I need. Thanks in advanced

Thats what I use, careful using it so you don't crack your balancer.

Screw the crank bolt back in there a ways (not to the bottom though) and use that to push against. There are threaded holes in the crank pulley that are technically what you are supposed to use.

Im with Shocker, I bought mine from AutoZone, Get the Biggest 3 jaw you can find, I had to take mine and make it a 2 jaw( it will Convert), But it will pull it off. I have used it many times.

Also as Matt said Put the Center bolt back in ( only about half way) to use as foundation you push against, If you notice in the end of the bolt it will have a groove in it were it has been Center drilled specific for this reason.

Ok well since the tool you showed me looked nothing like what I had I went to autozone and exchanged it for the one you suggested. what a difference! took it off in like five minutes. I also put the bolt back in alittle as suggested. So easy even a caveman such as myself could do it . Thanks guys

that puller with the bolts works like a champ if you're not retarded as ****. The jawed puller works well, but if the pulley is lame, it will snap off the ends of the ridges ( on the very back )

Speaking of crank shaft pulleys, does anyone know what crank pulley cross references for the RB20?

if the pulley is really stuck on there good you will snap the edges off the pulley using those 3 claw type ones. i have seen it happen first hand. there are 2 small bolt holes in the pulley itself. find the correct bolts to thread in there and pull against those. thats how you guaruntee not to damage the pulley itself.

that said, i use the 3-claw one when my pulley needs to come off now because it has been off before and doesn't take too much to pull it back off. but if it's on there good you will damage the pulley

use that puller and the top two bolts from your timing cover with some washers to keep them from slipping thru the holes, kinda ghetto but works very well.just make sure you seat the screws else it will strip out.

Carl, those were the bolts i tried to use. If you look in the 1st pic you can see one kind of in the middle of the picture and the other one on the bottom right of the red box still could get it out though. I'm sure that the first pulley puller provided to me does work like a champ Kansei240sx but as I initially stated I am retarded as ****. but the 3 clawed one worked easy and no damage to the pulley. Thanks for the advise!

I use that puller and my time was not wasted. :P

it works if you know what you're doing and you won't risk ****ing up your balancer.

Like someone said, there are 2 tapped holes. Just pick up some 10mm x 1.5 (60mm length should be long enough) metric bolts and washer from Home Depot. Cost of cents vs your balancer getting cracked.

My Experience:

I removed the main crank bolt, used my Proto gear puller and a washer (where the crank bolt was, so the tip of the gear puller would not damage the bolt hole) and a few turns of the wrench, and the balancer was in my hand.

From what I have read in the year or so since, I was rather fortunate.

Sometimes it is the pulley, but most of the time the timing gear is the real PITA that people end up cutting off.

i don't know the exact size of the puller bolts that go in the pulley, but i know for damn sure it isnt a 10mm (m10) bolt. thats like the size of the transmission bolts. I think he means 10mm head, which is usually an m6 or so.

just take one of the bolts from your timing cover, thread it into your crank pulley to make sure its the right thread. then go to home depot and match that bolt thread if you don't want to pull on the timing cover bolt. Carl has said the top timing cover bolts thread in there.
