Let's see if this helps you out any. I made the mistake of pulling an engine without loosening that bolt first once.I picked up a few 3" grade 8 bolts at a hardware store with the correct pitch as the stock flywheel bolts. I threaded the 2 bolts into the crank shaft, across from each other, leaving about 1.5" exposed.I then ran a long piece (about 2 foot long) of steel pipe between the 2 bolts so that when I began lossening the pulley bolt the pipe locked onto the floor. The 2 bolts wedged the crank to keep it from spinning, and my brother sat on the engine and made sure nothing flew off the back end.It only took me a couple firm steady pulls to break the bolt free. That's kind of the trick. Grab your breaker bar and be steady, don't jerk or yank on the breaker.
