I am changing my timing belt, But I am stuck with one problem before all will go smoothly. I can't get the crank pulley to come off. An impact made short work of the crank pulley bolt, but now the pulley doesn't want to slide off of the crankshaft. Is there a trick to it? What have you guys done in the past to remove it? I was pondering using a puller - but I don't see any threaded holes to use one with. I tried gently prying/tapping with a hammer but I got absolutely no movement - it's solid. I checked the fsm, but all I could find about it was "Remove the crankshaft pulley..." and nothing indicating how. A quick search of the forums yielded some results - but no definate answers. Thanks!

Just keep trying! WD-40 or PB blaster it, let it sit, tap it lightly with a hammer, then pry it (I use 2 big screwdrivers) and keep applying pressure between the two screwdrivers until it come off. Just keep at and it will come off.

Go rent a pulley removal tool from Autozone/NAPA/Murry's. Makes life so much easier, will take it off in a snap.

You'll need a large 3 jaw puller. Be careful as it's quite easy to chip the crank pulley removing it this way. It generally makes short work of it though.

Nope, it's not the same. the FWD CA18DE has the P/S pump and Alternator reversed and it only uses 2 belts instead of 3.

Unfortunately, yes. But if you chip it, it's not a big deal. Many of us have run shipped crank pullies for years w/o any problems.

Got mine off using the damned big hammer trick. chipped it a bit too, but im not worried. I put a piece of wood on the cranck and bashed on that. What was the worst was the gear hidden behind the crank pulley. That one rude gear.

I was trying to take mine off last night had had same problem. Final found a kit which did it but not after i had screw drivers bars etc in there trying to get it out.

I have ran into a problem, which mit have occur doing this when i was replacing water pump on my gts-t rb20det.

But once i done turned on and the engine was making clicking sounds pretty deep in volume. the car was i little bit over heated when water pump failed etc but nothing off the chart. And i cant remember it making that sound when i drove it 2km back to my house or when it first blew.

so i not sure if i damage the crank while getting pulley of or something like a bearing damaged

Any ideas

What is th4e size of that nut on the crank pulley? I don't have sizes that big I just want to buy the one that fits.

Also does anyone know of any after market crank pulleys? I have looked around and it seems no one makes them anymore. is this something that I could have made?

I'd pay 100 dollars for one but I doubt I could get one custom made for anything near that price.

Thanks

uuum, 36mm?

and ryan, i get mine off with a three jaw puller every time! you really do have to be careful, as mine has lots of chunks out of it. i find its best to undo the bolt a little, then stick the puller on it, so it has something quality to brace against. then undo it a little more and repeat. itll come off like butta.

The crank bolt on mine was 27mm , thankfully I already had a socket that size.

Yeah, I had a 36mm for axle nuts on a Z, but it was way to big.

27mm sounds right.

Thanks guys.

To get my crank pulley off of mine it was a bit rusted on so I drilled and tapped 2 holes on each side of the pulley and then used a puller tool on bolts that I threaded into the holes
