are you turning it the right way? i dont know if it's a reverse thread, but even tightening it slightly will help break the tension for loosening it.

If you dont have PB Blaster, GET SOME!! The stuff is awesome, and you can get from anywhere, even wal--mart. Worked on a 1948 1ton truck's original exhaust manifold, the only bolt/stud that broke was the one we didnt spray with that stuff. The only thing i've found better is Aero-Kroil, but you have to order that directly from the manufacturer and claim you are a manufacturing company. They will not sell to individuals.

And what kind of breaker bars are you breaking???

I used a 1/2 inch Harbor Freight special (picture below) with a 30" cheater steel pipe to give the breaker bar more leverage and reinforcement. On my first attempt I had the bar resting solid against the garage floor and the starter could not budge it. I lifted the bar up about an inch above the garage floor so the started could engage and start moving the crankshaft before the bar made contact with the garage floor. It broke the bolt loose using that method. Naturally it sounded like a gunshot when the bar hit the floor -- but it worked.

Check out the following YOUTUBE video. Remember to remove the fuel pump fuse and turn over the engine a few times before you use the starter method because you do not want the engine to start while you are attempting this operation.

I tried the starter. It breaks the half inch breaker bars. It just twists the head and after a few tries snaps.

I had to buy a 3/4 inch drive socket to use with the torque wrench in the picture to tighten up to full torque spec. I guess I would be moving up to 3/4 in drive it the 1/2 inch drives are breaking.

Harbor Freight has a 3/4 inch for $18.99
