I bought an Ebay Aluminium crank pulley. I tried putting it on but it was a litttle tight so I decided to push it in with the bolt. So I crank it all the way in now I notice a small amount of aluminium that shaved off the inside diameter. BUt as I crank the bolt it doesn't seem to want to tighten. So my question is did I just screw the pulley up and is the pulley suppose to be touching the motor? I will post a picture as soon as I take it . Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Okay, first of all in regards to aluminum pulleys, there are some available with a steel sleeve that rides on the crank snout and some without. I hope you bought one with the steel sleeve.Second, when using the bolt to work the pulley on, do 1/2 turns at a time. Tighten 1/2 turn then back up a little, tighten 1/2 turn back up.....Lastly, is the pulley the correct one for the engine? It should be touching the seal ONLY! If any other part is touching, it is binding. Binding= not good. Please post up a picture.

Well the steel sleeve is not a requirement. It helps out during installation and helps prevent the pulley itself from cracking or breaking at the Woodruff key.Go ahead and send the picture to: [email protected] and we'll take a look see.

Well, that front view does not tell me too much. The shavings may be from the washer spinning on the face. You mentioned the pulley was touching the motor, What part of the motor, what part of the pulley? If you can remove the pulley and check the bore for score marks. Some of the shavings may be from the Woodruff key having its way with the ridge. Dont get scared yet, just take a step back and we'll see where we are at.

The shaving came from the inside out. It was'nt from the washer spinning. But why would the bolt just spin and not tighten up. If look at the bolt the back part of the thread looks like it was starting to strip. From looking at the picture does it look like it is all the way back? In regards to touching the motor it looks like it but I could be wrong just not sure if Iput it on right.

Weird thing yesterday the bolt did'nt want to tighten or I was worrying to much about installing it right. Today I tried tightening it and it worked. Thanks for the replies Gumby74.

I am glad it worked out. remember to torque it down properly. I believe it is 110 ft/lbs of torque.

Question in regards to torqueing it down with an electric impact gun. How do you torque it to 110lbs?

With the car in 5th gear, parking brake on, and a torque wrench. NOT with an impact wrench.
