So I was wondering; if my KA24E setup is only using a single belt on the middle crank shaft pulley to drive the alternator and water pump, would it be ok to just delete the crank pulley's outer pulley & damper assembly? That assembly weighs almost as much as the other!

I figure that without any belt tension being placed on the damper pulley, the dampening effect would be less. But then I also figure that the rubber damper would still be absorbing some vibrations without that tension, just less so. So I am on the fence.

I am a newb and had bought the KA24DE Isis Performance underdrive pulley only to figure out the hard way that it isn't compatible. The pulley's mounting sleeve is too short so it bottoms out against the front engine cover. The timing marks are also in a different location. But this pulley's lack of a damper led me to consider the above question.

Messing with the damper can be risky business. Not only does it damp for the accessories, but it damps/controls natural frequencies and vibrations for the crank. You run the risk of actually shattering your oil pump if you don't get it right.
