Bumping this old thread to add my own removal story/idea for anyone who is searching for this info, like I was.
I wouldn't be surprised if mine had never been taken off in 29 years, it was on good. I've never drilled and tapped, plus I didn't want to spend the money on a good tap and die set. So I decided to go more basic and use my Rotozip on the crank sprocket to cut two slots on each side, in order to get a puller on it. I turned the crank, with the belt off, a quarter turn each direction in order to cut the slots. I made the cuts in the middle of the teeth. I just eyeballed it, but the width and depth of the cuts is about 1/4". I ended up trying 3 different types of pullers before finding the perfect one for the job:
You can find a similar one by searching for: "OTC Outer Tie Rod Remover", but the specific one I used came from the "Powerbuilt Front End Service Kit" that I rented at Advance Auto Parts. They both look to be the same size from the picture.
Hope that helps.

Oh and you might want to watch the sparks if everything is coated in oil from your cam seal leaking. I was living dangerously and just let them make smoke, but that's obviously not a good idea.

You might want to cover your alternator anyways (if it's down there like mine is), just to keep the flying metal pieces out of it.
