OOOOOKAY, so let's kick off this story.

Alrighty, first off I'm glad to be an owner of this magnificent car and am in love with it, really am. I love this thing and everything about it, including the culture surrounding the Z and have been lurking without an account for sometime and I'll just say you guys are awesome.

And, onto my issue. I brought my baby second hand from a scrub who seemed to care less about the car, so i knew it was gonna require some basic TLC from me in order to get it back to it's prime. This car was a daily driver/project in progress if you will. Apparently, this dude put a new engine in it (no verification of this, strictly a word of mouth thing), so I was gonna just clean out the spark plugs and do a fluid flush soon to start things off but now it won't even start. The car ran fine until this past Monday, my area experienced some rain fall and on the way home from school, the car shook...pretty violently and then shut off, which upset me of course but I pulled off to the side and got it towed back to the house.

While I was waiting though, I of course, tried to start it a couple times to see if I could at least make it back home, the car cranked but wouldn't start. So, I assumed fuel pump like anyone else would. I counted my losses for that day and went to bed after the car was at my house, the next day I go and check on my Z and the car is dead as a brick. No starter click, no interior lights, nothing. That quickly led me to believe it was a battery issue, so I jump it (still no start, but I regain interior electronics) and WITH that jump, I was able to hear the fuel pump engage which ruled that issue out. I decide maybe the jump wasn't connected long enough to make a difference in starting since these engines require a ton to start, so I put it on my trickle battery charger over night.

Next day, interior electronics/headlights work and whatnot. I realize that my battery isn't too bad, so I disconnect it, clean the terminals and reconnect it and now..it's just making a clicking noise with no crank or start, just clickclicklicklick. It sucked. Finally, today, I took the battery back out, got it tested to just make sure. It intially tested bad, but then tested good and was charged for me. I get home, put the battery back in, and then turn the key and now the car does nothing, not even the rapid clicking I experienced before. I'm trying not to get shafted by a mechanic or pay for towing but I'm at my wits end :gotme

The way my engine shut off has me worried it seized, but I know there's definitely oil in there and was at the time I drove it. I checked the dipstick and it was kinda dry but it's been sitting with no engine activity since Monday so I didn't expect much. Plus, I assume I would have had a bunch of signs proceeding a seizure of an engine..like rods knocking..or a ticking of some sort..I expect it wouldn't just do it. I'm honestly at a loss :wtf2: and would love any input, thanks guys. I've seen a bunch of threads on here but none as weird as mine unless I overlooked..so sorry if this is a repeat thread.

Tl;dr engine shut off really weirdly while driving, can't get my car to start again. Almost forgot, here's a video of what my car sounded like when I had some reaction from turning the key, I found this video on youtube and the sound is identical : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgQ0XOAwv7M

Ok, first steps first. Have you checked your main fusible link next to the battery? Sounds like that could be an issue now from cranking too much and burning it out. Check other fuses as well.

Next, the battery in that video sounds dead. And I don't mean just charged dead, I mean dead-dead. And if it initially tested bad, that leads me to believe it really is. A dead cell can cause a load drain that goes away when charged. The rapid clicking is your starter solenoid engaging and disengaging rapidly, because when it tries to turn the starter motor, there isn't enough juice and it's letting go and resetting.

Next, pull the plugs and see if there's water in the cylinder. Stick a screwdriver down in there and see if it comes back up wet. Z32's aren't a bad car for hydrolocking, but you said it was raining, so we're not gonna completely rule that out.

Next, pull the plugs and the CAS, turn the key to "on", and rotate the CAS and see if your injectors click or you get spark at the plugs when you hold the threads to the plenum. Stay clear, cause those sparks hurt like hell.

Last, if all of that comes up with normal operation, pull the timing belt cover. You don't know when the maintenance was done, if ever, so we're not ruling that out.
