The crank angle sensor on all Nissan products of that era is the optical slotted wheel sensor mounted within the distributor. You'll have to replace the entire distributor with a remanufactured unit.

Actually, after looking at my Haynes manual, it seems you can replace the crank angle sensor without removing the distributor.

and the Z32 as well as many other models don't have distributors, they have CAS mounted to the timing belt cover

True. But you'll have to get it used. I don't believe there is a seperate part number for the CAS outside of the distributor.

DUDE It seemed like I pissed some of you off so I just done away with them.everytime a post a message you tell me to go to the manual so why ask.I'm disabled and work on my z car two or three hours a day.I don't have a good manual like you do and can't afford one (disabilty) besides I enjoy everyone on the forum. So I desided I wasn't gonna let one person drive me off the forum. And if I miss spell or hit a wrong key I'm sorry but I have macular degeration and have a little trouble seeing my key. And that is all i'm gonna say about this subject.

Glorywagen; I didn't mean any harm, honest! You will need a manual to replace the distributor (I wouldn't replace the crank angle sensor with a used one, that's just asking for trouble, unless you know the car it came from). When I buy the factory service manual, I'm willing to give you my Haynes manual for shipping costs (media mail is dirt cheap). Lemme know. [email protected]

Here's a Link to a bunch of Factory service manuals. They have an 84 & 86 on there, I believe either will work for you. Evildy or AZ-bum, tell me if I'm wrong. They rotate their availability on the hour so if you can't down load one of them when you check try again in an hour.

By the way FSMs rock and free FSMs are even better.
