Question is... if your crank is going bad because maybe some of the bearings are going out and its becoming harder to rotate the engine... would your car sometimes not turn over like its starts to turn over then just stops or sometimes the starter makes a grinding noise becuase its try to turn over then all of a sudden the crank stops turning and starter teeth skips like a grinding noise for a sec becuase its all ready trying to rotate and the crank has stoped... is this a possiblebilty? And if so to replace bearing for the crank or to work on the crank do you have to tear apart the whole engine or can you just work from the oil pan once you remove the enigne... thanks for any input.... Jonathan

no, if you have a cranking issue it's the starter and or the flywheel, and the rod bearing tend to fail before the main bearings, which gives you a rod knock, if the mians fail it tends to be the thrust bearing, and the crank walks when you depress the clutch, if the bearsing go, you need a rebuild, but most likely you have either a staarter issue, or as a result of a starter issue the teeth on the flywheel are damaged, pull the starter and get a good look at the teeth n the flywheel and the starter and find out fhy it's grinding
