Cracking noise...is it serious?

Whenever I turn the steering wheel...i hear a crackling noise...sounds like its coming from behind the gauges...what could it be? can it be serious?

mine does the same exact thing...mines a 94 with 109k on the odometer... its been doin it for a while now...i never had the money to get it looked at though..but sounds almost like its behind the guages like you said or in the air vents...i cant really pinpoint it

Yea mine is a 94 also but I have 84k on it. I'll have somebody look at it just to be on the safe side.

I have a '95 and mine has started doing that just recently. My sound is coming from the passenger side though. I had it checked twice and no one could tell me anything. I'm just planning on doing the whole suspension soon to eliminate it one by one.

yea mine does it on the passenger side sometimes too....i dont think it has anything to do with the suspension though, sounds more like something just under the dash...just my personal thoughts...i could be wrong

I think it might be the gauge covering...cuz it sounds like something plastic cracking. However, I see no cracks on it. Still not sure, it could be underneath the steering wheel but my pops helps me disconnect the alarm (wasn't functional anymore) because it was sucking juice off the battery. He took out the whole covering and I know he put it back together...but it might be something inside.
