Who cares how much it costs.....thats what your insurance policies are there for, to cover this type of problem.

Maybe he has a deductible higher than $200?

A windshield replacement is more than $200. I would expect he meant more like $1200. I bet he hit shift and number 1 on his keyboard when he meant to hit the number 1.

Insurance pays-but you pay deductible. Apparently he's got a big one-deductible that is...

Deductable amount is chosen by the insured person, who other to blame but yourself if you choose a number higher than you are comfortable paying when you need to file a claim????

Stop bashing the guy and whining about deductables - Call around to some junk yards I'm sure there are some cheaper available.

Call a few local glass shop and I'll bet you can get it replaced cheaper. With or without insurance.

I didn't ask for recommendations on deductables. Question was why is the windshiled with adaptive cruise around $1200 even aftermarket.

Thanks Ken & FC for not going off topic. I will call around some yards. Not worth filing a claim unless its serious.

To others who got spare time, you can postwhore in other threads and keep filling the db.

Seems somebody bought more car than they can comfortably afford to maintain? Dumpster diving for used windshield instead of letting the comprehensive insurance that you already paid for cover the damage on a newer luxury automobile is just absurd!

I think you mean windshield with (LDW) Lane departure warning system. That little camera next to your rearview mirror is the LDW. Only difference is that little part that is not tinted for the camera lens, otherwise there is no difference. You can probably get an aftermarket but without the tinted strip up top & get a custom strip with a cutout for the LDW camera. I had a chip in my windshield and got quote the same $1200 for the windshield so I got the chip filled in by repair. If you can do that, I would go that route. If you got a good size crack and it's obstructing your view, you may have to bite the bullet and get a new one.

Adaptive cruise control has no dependancy on the windshield. LDW is integrated into the rear view mirror assembly and has a camera that must be able to have a clear view through the windsheild. If he has adaptive cruise...he's got LDW. Anyway. $1200 is not unheard of for a new windshield. I had to replace the windshield on my G35 coupe and it was $950. But I had zero deductable so, I didn't "pay" anything.

Intelligent Cruise Control is not the feature that would require an OE windshield on the M. However LDW will require you to get a new glass from the dealer.

Since your profile says your M has EVERY option I am going to assume it also has Lane Departure Warning...meaning its going to have to be the original replacement. To the best of my knowledge there are no aftermarket companies out there who make a replacement that accommodates the LDW camera. The camera is very sensitive and may require the dealer to reset its memory after the replacement.

Wow. I had no idea the LDW option would make the windshield cost so much more. I'm glad I went ahead and had the chip I got a few weeks ago repaired for $35.

It could be much worse. I remember when I was working at MB in the body shop we had a few of the mid 90s big body S class with the triple pained bullet "resistant" glass in the doors costs more than these factory windshields. It's no concellation but it could be much worse.

Having every option comes at a price when it comes to things like this or a chip on the ICC sensor. That actually costs almost $3,000 total to replace and cannot be repaired.

@ Steve - Thanks for the detailed explanation. I should have stated Lane departure system and not adaptive. I just wanted to make sure that before i spend the cash I need to know why it is more expensive than the regular one.

@ qship96 - If you can't contribute anything good then stay the f away. You should be happy where you are in that pos Q. You don't even own an Infiniti M so your opinion so why even bother? I know what I can and cannot afford. I am sure I have owned and will own more cars than you will EVER do in your lifetime. I pay CASH for my cars but not dumb enough to spend whatever dealer quotes me. I like to do my research before purchasing anything.

Time to man up and spend the $1200 out of pocket since it is becoming obvious you dont have comprehensive insurance to cover your damages.........hopefully you can now see the benefits of investing in a full coverage insurance policy?????

Come on dude.. now I need to show you my insurance policy? LOL. I wish you were local here to see. Keep spending 5k on a car that's worth 500 bucks. Yes got full coverage and yes got more cars paid for than you can ever imagine. Its not smart to report claims for little damages my friend. I guess you will learn that when you start owning more cars. BtW if you ever get to a point where you have more than 5 cars, 2 bikes and 2 homes then you should seriously consider State Farm. They are the best for insurance coverage

Both of you need to stop the personal attacks

Q- I don't know why you even bother expending the energy bothering people out of your classics areas. We know you are just here to start trouble.

One of the great things about the forum type of group communication is that we get to talk to people from all socioeconomical points throughout the country and the world. As we all come from different places and are heading in different directions. It's just the way a demographic of a luxury car forum with all models goes.

Play by the rules or GTFO.
